Happy Friday

and

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

One of my coworkers made the comment that his wife asked him to give her flowers for Valentine’s Day.

She ASKED him.  And he didn’t send her flowers!

I told him I would blog about this and he shrugged.

One day there will be shaming!

After listening to two of these guys talk this morning about how they don’t observe this “Hallmark holiday” I am even more convinced that

I have the best Valentine in the world.

My Valentine is my

Favorite # ONE

LB

Not because he spoils me, but because he adores me.

And I adore him!

He gives and gives and is always trying to think of ways to outdo himself.  This morning I was greeted by hugs, kisses, balloons, chocolates, gifts, and flowers.

LB knows how much I love flowers.

Favorite # TWO

Tulips

LB bought these last week.  No flowers at first, but they started to show signs of budding within two days.

When the flowers finally opened, Elvis would have none of it.  He decided it was time for them to go.  As of this morning, he has bitten off two flowers and left them for me to find on the table.

At least he didn’t eat them and hopefully he won’t eat these

Favorite # THREE

A Special Delivery

with a note quoting a line from my favorite movie You’ve Got Mail.

I’ve mentioned this in another Valentine’s Day Post here.

Yes, LB, I do think daisies are the friendliest flower!

[He is such a romantic]

This week has been a long one, not only because I commute to work in another city. every. day.

But because of an experiment I am doing for my Behavior Modification class.  This experiment (and class) deserves a blog post of its own, but for now, let me say that I would not have been able to track the number of grams of sugar I have consumed each day without this smartphone app

Favorite # TWO

MyFitnessPal

It is amazing how many grams of sugar can be consumed in one day even when you aren’t indulging in sweets.

Even cauliflower has sugar!

This birthday edition of my Friday Favorites celebrates a special event.

Happy Birthday LB!

LB wanted to enjoy a weekend out of town for his birthday.  He also wanted seafood for dinner.  On our way to St. Simon’s Island, LB and I stopped at

Favorite # ONE

Zachry’s Seafood & Steak

It is a popular restaurant, so we had a short wait where we took a moment to snap a selfie.

LB’s dinner included shrimp and oysters, “lightly breaded and fried to a golden brown”, served with salad, hushpuppies, a loaded potato, and LOTS of condiments!

In addition to dinner, there was live music.  We dined to the sounds of Cops-n-Robbers.

On day 2 of LB’s birthday weekend, we stopped to look at a car for sale.  And now I’m hooked.

Favorite # TWO

The

Mercedes CLA 250

This would definitely be a Kim car and it has been added to my wish list!

When we returned home, LB chose a birthday cake recipe from my

Today is National Compliment Day!

So in case no one else has told you…

YOU LOOK MARVELOUS!

~

Today at work we observed Chinese New Year, and [if it matters to anyone out there] it is the year of the rat.

When I think about Chinese I think about the fascination my son has always had with Chinese martial arts… specifically kung fu.

He started practicing when he was in middle school

What a cutie!

One of my coworkers came into the office today and exclaimed

“Kim, It’s FRIDAY”!

That’s all I needed to hear.

~

My Friday favorites this week start with last Saturday and a little birthday girl

Favorite # ONE

Little Thea

is four years old!

She wanted to celebrate her birthday by having a tea party and dressing up as a princess.

One of Thea’s best friends is Lydia, who came all the way from South Carolina just to surprise Thea on her birthday!

They had a wonderful time visiting together!

Later that evening we gathered at Mama’s house to celebrate again.

While we celebrated, I was able to enjoy

How many times has this been one of my favorites?

Then before I knew it, Monday had arrived and it was time to go back to work.

And if that isn’t bad enough, this week I imposed a no sugar rule on myself.  I swore off the white stuff and everything that contains it

until

I was presented with this

Yes, for being at work at the expected time, every day in 2019, my company gave me a jar of candy.

Don’t be jealous.

The jar is empty now.Wendy helped.

Last week I named five Christmas gifts that I love.  One in particular that I did not mention is my

Friday Favorites

January 10, 2020

This week has been My first full week back to work since the holidays.  And [not surprisingly] it seems that this week has been longer than usual.  Although I have to work hard to do so, I’ve begun my transition back to normal life.  And now that I’ve had time to experience all of the Christmas gifts I received, it seemed to me today would be a good day to highlight some of my favorites.

Here they are:

This is what they looked like

Gina gave a copy to Mama and Me along with a note that read:

“These pictures make me so happy I just can’t stop looking at them.  There are only two other people that would completely share my feelings:  my sister and my mother.  I want you both to see what I’ve been looking at for the last few days.  I love you both to the moon and back again.”

I am blessed.

National Bobblehead Day

January 7, 2020

Each year on January 7th

National Bobblehead Day

recognizes a day of celebration for all spring-connected head bobbing figurines.

“For over 100 years, Bobbleheads have been entertaining and fascinating fans and collectors. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, too. Bobbleheads commemorate iconic teams, movies, and cartoon characters. Individually, they represent some of our most exciting athletes or thrilling television and movie characters”  (source).

I don’t have a favorite Bobblehead to celebrate, but I do have something on my mind.

On Monday I watched an interview on television during my treadmill time.  An NBC correspondent was interviewing a well-known public figure, a woman who is accomplished, bright, wealthy, and highly admired.  During the interview she explained that no matter what politics people subscribe to, they all want the same basic things: “good health, the ability to earn a good, decent living, to take care of their families, to have prosperity and to be able to pass that on to their children, to live a life that feels vibrant and meaningful to them”.

Because I used to watch her television program, I know that she was raised Baptist, even named for a Biblical character (sort of) and as an adult has reiterated her Christian faith.

She is an Influential Woman

and as so many others do, I find her to be fascinating.

Early on I noticed that she tends to lean toward an all-inclusive spirituality rather than observance of a particular doctrine.  Since this bothered me (and still does) there was a time in my life that I was focused on praying for her .  I remembered this while I watched the interview.

The interviewer asked her to describe her proudest accomplishment and after a moment of recounting she replied “I feel completely spiritually centered, proudest accomplishment.”

She mentioned a desire to bring people together and have them hear with an “ear of discernment” as people do not know “what is the truth”.

So I searched online to see if there was evidence that she has returned to her childhood faith.

I found a Q&A article in AARP that revealed the following:

Q: So what do you believe?

A: That’s a great question. I believe I don’t know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future. I know who and what holds the future. I trust that beyond this space and time, all is well, and all will be well (source).

I hope that means what I hope it means, but I don’t have a good feeling.

When I talked to LB about this he reminded me that it is important to not put faith in any person.  There is an opportunity to be let down if you do so.  That said, I will continue to hope that she remembers the faith that her grandmother shared with her.

I also hope she understands that one who is as influential as she, has an amount of responsibility for others that is exponential.

Not giving up hope!

Welcome!

I’m Kim… and I love Pretty clothes, Pretty décor, Pretty days, and Pretty much anything that involves family and fun.  Growing up, My Mama told me more than once “Pretty is as Pretty does” …encouraging me to focus on the inner pretty girl, as she is the one that matters most.

Here on my blog, I’m sharing what I see as pretty.  Whether it be an outfit, an experience, an event, a memory or thought.  Hopefully I’ll share something that will be interesting, useful, or make you smile along the way.
