It’s Monday morning and I’m sitting here looking forlornly at my mac book.  The weekend was a whirlwind and very much out of the ordinary.  To begin, we had some trees “sculpted”.  It was intense tree pruning, if there ever was.  I worried about the squirrels and birds all day long.  If you are a nature lover, you know what I mean.

LB worried about the house being damaged because he is logical, unlike me.

Why did we have tree work done?  So future storms wouldn’t cause damage to the house.  It was a good thing, but still traumatizing.  At least Ozzy wasn’t bothered.  He slept all day.

As I mentioned in my last post, my nephew and his family came home for a visit.  We got together on Sunday evening for a pot luck and fellowship.  I’m not a big fellow-shipper, but I was there because I love my family and all of the soups were delicious.  The little girls cried when it was time to say goodbye.  It was heartbreaking.  And now, here I sit, wondering if I’ll be able to conjure up any happy thoughts to turn into favorites.

I suppose I will start with my Saturday goat adventure, but even that was a bit stressful.  I was working in the yard because it was a beautiful day and my plants needed to be fed.  I looked across Mama’s yard and BEHOLD there was a goat coming toward me.

This friendly little goat is named Brownie and lives at the home next door to Mama.

The owner was away and his golden retriever pried open the back gate and let herself and the goat out.  Mama & I finally managed to get Brownie safely back where she belonged.

On May 1, 2026, my nephew Clay and his family left Florida for Costa Rica to engage in missionary work.

You can read about our elaborate send off here.

We didn’t expect to see them again for a few years… at least that was my understanding.  That said, due to the recent death of Chynna’s father, they headed home to attend the service.  Although it is with sadness that they return, it is with great joy that we get to see them.

It is Friday and I am on vacation with my LB!

This Little Book

LB has repeatedly mentioned that he thinks I need to write a book, so I’m working on it.  He bought this one to give me ideas and encouragement.  This little book is for children and I’m happy with the idea of creating a children’s book, but I figured mine would be more like a little golden book.  Or a poem.

Anyway, I read Vanessa’s Summer Adventure by Margaret Henderson and I thought I was very good.

Ozzy’s Blue Ball

This dusty fuzz ball [that used to belong to Elvis] is Ozzy’s most beloved toy.  He LOVES it!

Unfortunately he loses it continually.  Under the sectional.  Under the stove.  Behind the refrigerator.  And he loses it in other places that I have not identified because after a few days he will appear with it in his mouth.  LB and I are baffled.

Book Club

I may have mentioned this before, but I joined my sister’s book club last November.  At the time I was being nurse to a senior cat who was suffering from liver failure.  The books were a distraction for both of us.  All he wanted to do was sit on the back patio and someone had to be with him.  Elvis enjoyed the November book:  The Dutch House by Ann Patchett, read by Tom Hanks, and I did too.  Today is National Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day and I’ll always remember the sweet kitty who enjoyed sitting outside and listening to that first book club book and with me.

Book Club gets together monthly to talk about the book of the month and have some sort of refreshments that are reminiscent of that month’s story.  This past Sunday we gathered to talk about Cold Sassy Tree and eat fried chicken, biscuits, dumplings, peach cobbler, and other southern delicacies. The only down side to the meeting was that attendance was low:  Mema, Emily, and Sydney were absent, as well as Chynna who is currently in Costa Rica. Nevertheless, it was a good and fun meeting.

Pictured above is Zeke, wearing a swimsuit that I bought for Rory several years ago.  It was all that I had because his suit was at home in the washer.  Prior to this photo, Glammy and Zeke washed the giant white swan (Fergus) with a bucketful of suds because he was covered in mildew and dirt from ongoing rainy summer days.  Zeke loved this job and I was happy to let him join in.

I finally bit the bullet and made it to my annual doctor appointment.  I’d put it off for many reasons: health statistics that I’d rather keep to myself, fasting for blood work, and invasiveness to name a few.  LB drove me and waited in the waiting room as he does every year.  Afterward, he took me to the Town Center and then out to dinner.
