Super Bowl Sunday

I don’t care a whole lot about football, but LB has a couple of friends who come over to watch the super bowl game with us every year.  This year we had a great time catching up and EATING.  I enjoyed seeing them!

In addition to that, I did notice that Tom Brady didn’t don a mask when he arrived at the stadium.  He didn’t wear a mask at all.  He also took some flack about not wearing a mask.

Is Tom Brady a Superhero?

The liberals are unhappy.

So YES!

I recently completed my 21 day Daniel fast which inspired me to look for ways to make vegetables taste better.  One of my favorites is a recipe that I put together using several other recipes I found.

Favorite # TWO

Cheese Sauce

with no cheese

Vegan Cheese Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 2 Yukon gold potatoes
  • 2  diced carrots
  • 10 oz. frozen cauliflower or butternut squash
  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 ¼ tsp lemon juice
  • water

Instructions:

Boil potatoes and carrots together in a pot until fork tender.  Reserve the water to add back into the cheese sauce.

Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender, along with some of the reserved water and blend. Add more of the reserved water to thin to desired consistency.

I’ll be making another batch this week!

UHaul

What would we do without UHaul America?  If all you have is a compact car, have no fear… you can rent a UHaul truck for the day.  Anyone can do it.  This week my daughter rented one and on Wednesday night it was loaded with the contents of her house, to move to her new house.  I was able to take Thursday afternoon off to help unload it.  I felt like I worked hard.  My fitbit showed 17, 499 steps and the end of the move.  But I didn’t do nearly as much as my nephew Clay.

What a sweetheart he is.  One in a million!

Clay is a great guy!

Which leads me to my

It’s Friday!

YAY

Someone suggested to me today, that Friday should be called YayDay.

Seems fitting to me.

Let me start my Friday Favorites with last Saturday.  We threw a BIG party for Mama’s 75th birthday.

Favorite # ONE

She seemed to have a really good time.

We had a band, a sing-a-long, a Mary video, lots of family, food, balloons… it was quite an event!

Happy Birthday Mama!

And on the subject of birthdays…

Favorite # TWO

Happy Birthday LB!

LB had a birthday Tuesday before last, and would have been in last week’s Friday Favorites if I had created a post to share.

Hoping to get me to spend more time on the back patio, he chose an outdoor heater as his birthday present.

We celebrated the big day by going to LaNopalera for dinnerand taking the next day off.

LB wanted to go to the beach for a cookout.

So we did.LB will always be my favorite!

Favorite # THREE

Carrot Cake

February 3rd was National Carrot Cake Day.

I asked LB to choose a birthday cake from my Southern Living Cake book.  Guess which one he picked. That’s right, he wanted a giant carrot cake for his birthday.

And on the subject of cakes, this week I recieved a request to make a birthday cake for our favorite soon-to-be 3 year old Rory.

Favorite # FOUR

A Cake like no Other

This is an example of the cake that Emily believes Rory will love, since she loves the story of Sleeping Beauty.

Reminiscent of the birthday cake the three fairies made for Aurora.  It looks like a mess, so I’m sure I won’t have any trouble replicating.

Although it isn’t always PRETTY, it is important to pass along information to people you care about.  Especially since it won’t be covered on News4Jax or any MSM.

Being Informed

Clearly you will see that this video was created prior to our 2020 Presidential election, however it contains information that everyone has a right to know.

Amanda

Wednesday was Amanda’s birthday but since she had to go out of town on business, we gathered Sunday night to celebrate.  Amanda requested a birthday cake that is reminiscent of one my Mema Reid used to make.  I have never been able to make mine look like hers.

It is a yellow layer cake with chocolate icing.  The icing is fudgy like candy

Favorite # TWO

Humility

There is nothing like presenting an ugly birthday cake to someone you love.

I don’t know why I can’t get this cake right!

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas

now that the Christmas cards are coming and this one is my favorite…

Apparently I’ve been preoccupied lately because I have been neglecting to publish my usual

On Saturday LB and I HAD to get out of the house.  I saw this as an opportunity to go

SHOPPING

The dressing rooms were open!It was a fun time!

We decided to go to the St. Augustine Outlet and then drive to the historic district to see the annual Nights of Lights.  We made it to the outlet mall, and had a great time, but the streets of St. Augustine were jam packed.  We’ll most likely try to get back to Nights of Lights sometime during the week, but on this trip, we visited an old favorite:

This week I came across an article that had me ‘grinning like a mule eating briars’

Bless Your Heart

… and Other Southern Sayings.

It was written by Chloe Ann and can be found here.

I use ‘Bless Your/Her/His Heart’ often, just to reply to a comment.  And most of the sayings in this article I remember hearing from my grandparents.  Mema used ‘Kindly’ and ‘Hasslin’. Everyone used ‘Fixin’, ‘Lordy Mercy’, ‘Reckon’, ‘Yonder’, and ‘Yall’.  Grandpa would have Dinner and Supper as opposed to Lunch and Dinner.

One that I didn’t read in this article was ‘Shoo’, meaning ‘get away’ which my Papa used when he told a story about his Grandmother.  As he came to the end of the story, using a high pitched voice he would say “Shoooo you chickens”

Jenna Ellis

This lady didn’t miss a beat in the press conference that was held on Thursday.

She stands here in this photo as a member of “an elite strike force team”.

She is my new hero.

I asked a coworker today if she watched the news conference about the election fraud.  She replied, “No, News4Jax said there was no fraud; that Trump needs to just give it up”.

Whether you agree with that or not, you owe it to yourself to hear the truth.

According to superstition, Friday the 13th is an unlucky day.

In my opinion, every Friday is a great day.  In fact, it is my favorite.

Richard

One of my most favorite blog posts is Once upon a time there was this Little Boy and it is all about how precious he is.

On Monday, November 9th my baby reached a milestone.Although he isn’t close by, he is always close to my heart.

I love this picture.

Happy Birthday Richard!

Richard and I have commiserated about the results of the 2020 presidential election.  He also keeps me updated with breaking news.  And sometimes he just drops something funny to lighten the mood…

It is typically on Friday that we have pizza.  This week we had pizza on Thursday, too!

Lucky LB!

Today is

World Kindness Day

according to National Day Calendar.

We are encouraged to spread kindness like an infectious cold.  That is ironic because we are also encouraged to stay home because of an infectious virus.  So spread kindness within your own household.  I’ll be spreading kindness in my kitchen tonight as I make pizza for LB!

Friday Favorites

November 6, 2020

This past week’s forecast included Halloween, a hurricane, a time change, and an election.  Despite the election, I have Friday Favorites and I have to say…

I’m so grateful for Friday!

This week also included the birthday of my firstborn

Favorite # ONE

Stephanie

I’ve published posts about Stephanie which you can read here and in a story here.

Stephanie likes to challenge me to create interesting birthday cakes like I mentioned in this post.  For her birthday this year she asked for a Halloween murder cake.  I did the best I could to recreate the photo she sent to me…She has a unique sense of taste.

To celebrate Stephanie’s birthday, many of our family gathered together on Sunday night.

One of the appetizers that I served at the party was a hit and a new favorite…

Peanut Butter and Jelly

We DID go out for a few minutes on Halloween to the annual Ballasso Halloween Party.  Due to COVID concerns, the party was held outdoors.  The evening was cut a bit short because it RAINED!

Favorite # FOUR

The GOP

The Grand Old Party (GOP) is also known as the Republican Party and is one of the two major political parties in the United States of America.  During the 19th century the Republican Party stood against the extension of slavery into our country’s new territories and, ultimately, for slavery’s complete abolition.  In the 21st-century, the Republican Party supports lower taxes, free market capitalism, restrictions on immigration, increased military spending, and the right to keep and bear arms.

Tuesday was election day and it began as a good day, but while we were sleeping something happened.  I know this because I was checking my FOX NEWS app between 3AM and 4AM.

I’m not one to make waves nor do I want to debate politics.  I love all things American including its history, the constitution, democracy, the right to vote, and the TRUTH.  I hope the truth is revealed.  And I hope God will continue to bless our country.

Friday Favorites

October 31, 2020

I am hard pressed to find something to name as a favorite for this week, as I begin this post.  I’ve had a rough week.  As I try to remain positive I’m reminded of a statement frequently made by Mama… “this too shall pass”.

With that in mind, I will be hopeful and think happy thoughts.

For the last week of October 2020, these are my Friday Favorites…

Favorite # ONE

The right to VOTE

LB and I voted after work on Wednesday.  Hoping and praying for a Republican victory.

~

Favorite # TWO

M&Ms

If you trick or treat at my house, you may get one or two of these.  Then again, they may be gone by the time you get here.

On the subject of trick or treating, LB and I aren’t typically home on Halloween.  We like to dress up and go to the Annual Ballasso Halloween Party.

With the impact of hurricane Zeta on the southeast this week, LB is working up to 17 hours a day being permanently joined to his company phone.

In hope that things work out and we are able to attend, we visited the Spirit Halloween store to find inspiration.

We came home with this

Favorite # THREE

I take full responsibility for this selection.

I’m not sure what I was thinking.

~

I enjoy looking at the National Day Calendar and October has many interesting national days.  As an example, today is Frankenstein Friday.  Three days ago it was National Black Cat Day.  Yesterday was National Cat Day.  Any national day that provides an excuse to post a picture of Elvis is a good day.

Favorite # FOUR

Anything involving Elvis~

Next Week

I have absolute faith that it will be better.

Welcome!

I’m Kim… and I love Pretty clothes, Pretty décor, Pretty days, and Pretty much anything that involves family and fun.  Growing up, My Mama told me more than once “Pretty is as Pretty does” …encouraging me to focus on the inner pretty girl, as she is the one that matters most.

Here on my blog, I’m sharing what I see as pretty.  Whether it be an outfit, an experience, an event, a memory or thought.  Hopefully I’ll share something that will be interesting, useful, or make you smile along the way.
