Happy Friday!

OMG it has been a looooong week

but it is…

Finally The Weekend!

And speaking of the weekend, on Sunday of Last weekend we welcomed the first day of Spring 2022 and it is my

Favorite # ONE

Spring

I hope you had a happy first day of spring!

I thought winter would never end!

For those of us who have become weary of the winter’s darkness, the new season brings the promise of longer days, increasing warmth, a burst of flowers and more time outdoors.  I’m looking forward to many sunshine days outside this spring!

So far we’ve had a couple of very nice days… nice enough to sit out in the sun and soak up some vitamin D, which is great for the immune system!  And we all know how important that is, thanks to the events of the past 2 years.

Don’t get me started.

Speaking of the immune system…

Electrolyte Powder

Just one little scoop of this in your berry smoothie provides calcium, magnesium, potassium, and other trace minerals.  It is sweetened with Stevia and tastes quite good!

I’m a sucker for health products and I learned about this one from a YouTube personality.

Several of my YouTube subscriptions are channels with posts that focus on good health.

My favorite is Dr. Berg.

Favorite # THREE

Although Dr. Berg suggested the electrolyte powder [his product], he offered other suggestions and explains what to look for when buying vitamins and/or minerals.  He has a lot of good advice and I enjoy listening to him.

This is one of his very informative posts and my

Friday Favorites

March 18, 2022

It is Friday.  Finally.

Yes it is still my favorite day of the week and I always have Friday Favorites [even if I don’t blog about them]!

OMG have I had an eventful couple of weeks.  The last time I posted was the day after a visit to the dentist.  The post was about my blogiversary so I didn’t include any recent events, only info about the importance of March 10th.

I’ve had some interesting dental stories that I am saving, just because they are a compilation and ongoing.  But this particular dental story is a standalone.

On Friday March 4th I bit down on a piece of crushed ice and immediately felt that something wasn’t right.  I had broken a big piece of a molar.  Luckily it didn’t hurt, but it was wiggling and I knew it would have to be taken care of soon.  I was able to get in to see my dentist on the following Tuesday, but had to schedule an afternoon with her on the following day.

And now, I have a crown.

She did a great job crafting my new tooth and for that she is my

The St. Patcaken“The Turducken of Cakes” from Pastry Chef Zac Young @ Gold BellyI have no bloomin’ idea why LB was looking on the web for a St. Patrick’s Day cake, when he knew I would be making his favorite Bailey’s Irish Cream Cake!  But somehow he came across The St. Patcaken on the Gold Belly website.  He was very intrigued, but it it was sold out, and not meant to be.

Also it was $99.

It may not have been as “pretty” but the cake I made yesterday was VERY POPULARYep… They ate half of it.

“They”

LB invited his friends over to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with us.  It wasn’t a wild party, but we had a good time catching up [and eating cake].

I’m not able to eloquently explain my political thoughts, but I am able to explain that I’m NOT falling for the current narrative of the MSM and those who have put themselves in power.  It makes me sad to know that so many people won’t take the time to find out that they are being misled.  I may not be able to explain what I believe to be the truth, but I can point you in the right direction.

Happy Blogiversary!

March 10, 2022

Today is my BLOGIVERSARY

Happy Blogiversary to ME!

It has now been five years.  My blogging skills haven’t changed but my world certainly has.

My first post The Journey Begins was published on March 10, 2017.  I was obsessed with shopping and clothes/fashion.  The obsession with clothes goes way back and I thought it would be fun to be a fashion blogger.

After beginning my blog, and as the weeks passed, I realized that fashion blogging isn’t as easy as it looks.

Rather than posts about fashion, I found that I was posting more and more about what I do and the people in my life.

And speaking of people in my life, on this day, March 10th,  in 1925, Bettelou Ellen McCarty was born.  Years later Bettelou would become my Mema.

Although my brother-in-law can tell the story much better, I believe little Bettelou started her journey in Buffalo, New York, eventually moving to Muncy, Pennsylvania, and much later to Florida where she met George S. Duckworth.

She was a good Mema

I dedicated this previous blog post to her.

I believe she would have been 97 today.

~

Now I am a Glammy

which is much like a Mema, but with added drama.

I have 2 of the cutest Glambabies and I’m a bit less obsessed with fashion.

Most of my attention is focused on what is going on in the world.  I’m praying every day that God will let the darkness be brought to light.  It isn’t looking good for the U.S. and I am concerned about the impact it is going to have on the little girls who call me Glammy.  We’ll keep hoping and praying.

The Last Time

March 8, 2022

A Post by Mary

Papa Duck My Grandfather, Walter Robert Duckworth

We went to Tifton, Georgia often to see my grandparents.  It was the “gathering place”, much like my home is today.

I was a teenager the last time I saw him.  He had been sick for what seemed like months.  The first time I had an inkling that something was wrong was when we “went to town”.  That was the all-in-all destination on Saturdays in Tifton.  The kids waited and waited for the adults to get dressed up to go to town.  Mama Duck put on a pretty dress but left her hair in pin-curls so it could be combed out the next day for church.  She would wrap a scarf around her head and off she’d go.  I think I saw her in pin-curls more than I saw her without them. It always struck me funny, even at my young age, but that was the way it always was and always would be.

It seemed like it took forever before we would all climb into the car for the ride down the old red clay road until we reached the paved roads that meant we were almost there.

Mostly it was one street but it had everything!  There was a movie theater, two five and dimes, a drugstore with a soda fountain, and Belks, where we could usually find Mama Duck and Mother, and an aunt or two. Then there was Papa Duck’s barber shop, where we loved to go and see Papa Duck and Uncle Bob. We were always treated with a five cent bottled Coca Cola.  I remember when they went up to a dime of all things.  But we were special because we knew the owner and he would open the coke “machine” up like a refrigerator door and give us kids our own for free.  On one such trip to town I was told to go with Papa or follow him or some such, and keep an eye on him so he wouldn’t get lost.  They said he had hardening of the arteries.  Sadly, it wasn’t long before he was bed-ridden.

On another trip to see my grandparents I was standing by his hospital bed that was set up in his own bedroom, ready to say good-bye. He was holding my hand and squeezing.  And squeezing.  It must have been my class ring, or rather Richard’s.  All I could think of was the pain.  For such a frail little man he had the strength of someone much younger.  I couldn’t wait until he was through loving on me.

Then there was one last time, probably a couple of weeks later.  I can see him as if it was yesterday.  Papa was reclining in one of those fold-up aluminum and plastic “lawn chairs” by the front door.  My Daddy was standing to the side as we all said our good-byes.  Papa reached for my hand and said, “if I never see you again, I want you to know how much I love you”.  I just stood there, tears beginning to fall on my cheeks, without saying anything.  I couldn’t.  That was one of those moments I wish I could have a do-over.  If only.  I loved him so much.  Grand-parents were different back then.  At least for me.  I only remember one or two occasions that stood out to me when we really interacted.  I’m sure there were more but I remember only a couple.  One was when he was going to the barn and invited me to go with him to gather eggs.  The other was when he was in the kitchen, washing dishes.  I asked him if he liked washing dishes, to which he replied that he did, as it gave him time to think about things.  That was rather odd to me since it was my most hated chore.  Since then I have stood at my own kitchen sink washing dishes, even though I have a dishwasher, thinking, mostly of my Papa Duck, standing in front of his sink, thinking.

He was a quiet man.  If only I had pulled up a chair and asked him about some of his thoughts.  I would probably be a lot smarter.  I know I would have gained more insight into this mystery of a man I longed to know better.  As I stood there taking in the fact that my Grandfather had just told me he loved me for perhaps the first time, at least the first time that I remember, my Daddy took me by the shoulders and hugged me as he led me out of the house.  Yes, it was the last time I saw him alive.

He died on Good Friday and was buried on Easter Sunday.  Ironic.  The day that Jesus arose from the grave, Papa went into it.  But because of that day, I have the hope and promise of seeing him again.  And I promise you that I will pull up a chair and ask him all those questions I’ve been storing up for him.

Later my Daddy told me that those were the last words Papa had spoken. Perhaps he’s going to have a lot to say too. Just perhaps.

A February To Remember

February 16, 2022

February 2022 is developing into a February to remember!

The weekend before Valentine’s Day was especially memorable.

On Saturday we celebrated Rory’s 4th birthday.  She is the sweetest little thing you ever did see.

I was privileged to meet her on the day she was born.

And I’ve been privileged to make each of her 4 birthday cakes.

For her 1st birthday, Emily aka Rory’s Mama, requested a Valentine [conversation candy/heart-shaped] cake.

When she turned 2, Rory was very much into “Toy Stoy” and Emily requested the Forky cupcakes, which were a hit.  For her 3rd birthday I attempted to make a Sleeping Beauty/Briar Rose cake, but I wasn’t sure how to make it look like it was being held up by a broomstick.  It wasn’t an exact replica, but Rory liked it anyway.

This year Rory is loving Paw Patrol.

Her Mama called it “the cake of Rory’s dreams”.

And it was pretty cute!

While I’d love to take credit for the “artwork” I cannot.  I ordered the “frosting sheet” from CAKES FOR CURES and simply placed it on top of my beautifully constructed pink and white cake.

~

While the family sat together in the living room chatting, Mama took the opportunity to read us a story.  She had written the story herself and did a very good job.  It was well-written, entertaining, and mind-blowing.  I won’t be able to share it myself, but will leave that to her.  Maybe she will let me include it in my “Mary’s Musings” section of this blog

… some day.

~

Sunday was Super Bowl 56.  While I am not a follower of football, LB and I will get together with 2 other couples and watch while we parttake of the best tailgate food you can imagine.  This year there was just 4 of us, but the goodies were still plenteous

Not pictured are the ribs, wings, and pizza rolls. Mmmm Mmmm

We were hoping to see a victory for the Bengals, but it wasn’t meant to be.

~

Since it is typically a late night, LB and I usually take the day off after Super Bowl.  This year that day happened to be Valentine’s Day.

We spent our Valentine’s Day together running errands, but later that evening went out to celebrate!

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

In the news last week

It was widely publicized, so you likely didn’t miss it: Whoopie Goldberg was suspended from ABC’s ‘The View’.  Search Whoopie Goldberg Holocaust for the full story.

On Newsmax Rob Schmitt interviewed President Trump at his home in Mar-a-lago.

One of the topics discussed was the tension in involving Russia and Ukraine.  Trump made a comment suggesting it is a weak administration that encourages or invokes war.

This whole situation is bizarre

On Wednesday there was “breaking news”  that the pentagon is expected to announce more US troops will deploy to eastern Europe as support to NATO allies feeling threatened by Russia’s moves near Ukraine.

While I was looking for information I came across

Jeff Nyquist is guest speaker on Man in America and in this post he shares his thoughts on what is going on between Russia and Ukraine.

This is what HE says:

in the last 10 weeks, Russia has began to mobilize and continues to move closer to the Ukraine border.  NATO is nervous, the US is nervous, but Ukraine is not, and is making no preparation to defend itself.  And it seems that Ukraine does not consider there to be a threat.  If Russia invades, which is likely, it may be part of a long awaited plan. Ukraine may is still part of what we remember as the Soviet Union.

He explained that Russia did not get rid of its tactical weapons at the end of the cold war, they put them in storage; they feigned the fall of communism and they are ready to bring it back.

Another bit of information he shared was his belief that the Russians and the Chinese have had a long time pact to bring down the west, their main target being to destroy and defeat the United States because if the United States doesn’t exist all the other countries have to come to terms with Russia and China.

I have no idea what to think.

3 days later…

~

In 2021 and 2022 many Democrat leaders have announced that they will not be seeking reelection.  In addition many left wing CEOs have announced their retirement.  On Wednesday CNN’s Jeff Zucker announced his as well…

Here is a little reminder of what a ‘great’ job he did…

If YouTube happens to remove the clip, you’ll be able to find it on Rumble

I’m Kim… and I love Pretty clothes, Pretty décor, Pretty days, and Pretty much anything that involves family and fun.  Growing up, My Mama told me more than once “Pretty is as Pretty does” …encouraging me to focus on the inner pretty girl, as she is the one that matters most.

Here on my blog, I’m sharing what I see as pretty.  Whether it be an outfit, an experience, an event, a memory or thought.  Hopefully I’ll share something that will be interesting, useful, or make you smile along the way.
