New Blouses

Two of them!

Last week I wore my new pants from LOFT with a blouse from LOFT that just didn’t quite work.

So I searched for a pink peplum blouse and found two that I thought might work.

A Ruffle Sleeve V-Neck Smocked Elastic Empire Waist Peplum Blouse Top

And a Sleeveless Skater Peplum Summer Top

Hopefully one of these blouses will look good with my new floral pants

Or I won’t wear them any more.

They put the ART in pARTy!

Last Christmas my son and daughter-in-law gave me [and Mama] the gift of a DIY workshop to share

at the

Beautifully Divine Studio.

We were finally able to coordinate our schedules and make an appointment to partake in this wood crafting together time.  Mama chose the “God Bless Our Home” sign.  Mine says Home Sweet Home referencing the state of Florida.  We enjoyed the experience so much, as we were leaving, Mama was talking about plans to go back soon and include “all the girls”.

The sign that I made at Beautifully Divine DIY Woodcraft Studio & Custom Gift boutique

not bad for an amateur, huh?

Mama is a crafter and enjoys creating projects like the one in this post.  I knew that her sign would turn out to be perfect, but I was surprised that mine turned out to be so nice!

Friday Favorites

April 6, 2018

Just when I think I couldn’t be any happier to see Friday… I become happier than ever to see Friday!

Favorite #ONE

Living in Florida!

After a brief chat with a colleague in Missouri today, it was brought to my attention [once again] that I am blessed to be living in the sunshine state!

Although we are expecting rain tomorrow night, there will likely be more beautiful weather than not this season!

Favorite #TWO

Spending time with this little angel

Yesterday she spent some time with her Mema, but still wanted to see Glammy and pick flowers.  We walked around the yard for a while and talked about the flowers, and picked a few.

Glammy was the lucky recipient of these

Carrot Cake Trifle

It’s FINALLY out of my house!

And unfortunately we didn’t take a picture…

OMG what is wrong with me???

You can look at this one.  It is similar.

I made the Carrot Cake Trifle as one of our Easter Sunday Dinner desserts this week.  We had so much food that I had half of this delectable concoction left over.  It served as LB’s 9:00PM dessert every night and each time I scooped up a dish for him, I took a bite myself.

Ingredients:

  • 1 box Carrot Cake Mix & required ingredients
  • 8 oz. softened cream cheese
  • 1 1/2 sticks of softened butter
  • 3 cups of powdered sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 16 oz. Cool Whip
  • Chopped walnuts

Easiest dessert recipe ever!  Prepare the carrot cake according to package directions, allow to cool and cut into cubes.  Mix together cream cheese and butter.  Add powdered sugar and vanilla.  Combine mixture with Cool Whip.  Layer in trifle dish with carrot cake and walnuts.  OMG delicious!

Obviously this is not helping me in my quest to be swimsuit ready by Memorial Day.

Hoda and Kathie Lee

Happy 10th anniversary!

I’ve been watching the 4th hour of the TODAY show (recorded) for SEVERAL years!

I love Hoda because she is happy, full of life, and tough as nails!

I love Kathie Lee because she is blunt, beautiful, and filled with conviction!

This is my favorite show to watch while I’m on the treadmill everyday and I feel like both ladies are my friends.  If I entered their contest for FAN OF THE WEEK (or any other special occasion) I’m sure I would win!

LOVE these Ladies!

Friday Favorites: Easter Edition

March 30, 2018

Today is one of the best Fridays Ever, so much so, we call it

Good Friday

Favorite # ONE

It only makes sense to start my list with this day.

Good Friday is part of a significant weekend, culminating in Easter Sunday.  On Sunday our family will gather to celebrate.  We start the Easter celebration on Saturday with a tradition I’ve kept with my girls… coloring eggs.

This time last year, we colored eggs, as I mentioned in this post and Easter would not be complete without coloring eggs on the Saturday before Easter.

Favorite # TWO

Easter eggs

Why do we celebrate Easter with eggs?

The egg, an ancient symbol of new life, has been associated with pagan festivals celebrating spring.  From a Christian perspective, Easter eggs are said to represent Jesus’ emergence from the tomb and resurrection.  The Easter egg tradition may also have merged into the celebration of Lent as it was traditional to use up all of the household’s eggs before Lent began.

In addition, one ancient tradition was the tinting of Easter eggs with the color red “in memory of the blood of Christ, shed as at that time of his crucifixion”.

This custom of the Easter egg can be traced to early Christians of Mesopotamia, and from there it spread into Russia through the Orthodox Churches, and later into Europe through the Catholic and Protestant Churches (source).

Very interesting.

Favorite # THREE

Sunflowers

in the form of cupcakes.

We will be making sunflower cupcakes tomorrow.

Last night I baked the chocolate mini-cupcakes…  52 of ‘em.

Tonight I am coloring the sliced almonds (yellow) that will serve as the petals for our sunflower cupcakes.  When my girls arrive on Saturday, I’ll have them assemble the cute little confections and will premier them tomorrow!

Be on the lookout for Sunflower Cupcakes!

On the subject of flowers…

Favorite # FOUR

Yesterday LB came home with flowers!a tulip plant and an Easter lily plant.

I love surprises!

Favorite # FIVE

Like the petals of a sunflower…

Yellow

Specifically my new yellow pants from LOFT

which turned out to be a smart spring shopping event!  Very Springy.

Happy Easter!

It is time for my Friday Favorites!

Favorite # ONE

The seasons have changed and once again…

SPRING BEGINS!

“And here in the Northern Hemisphere happy are we this day has arrived!  Get ready for longer days and increased sunshine.  Tune up the lawn mower.  More sunshine means the grass will be growing.”

(National Calendar Day)

Favorite # TWO

It was supposed to take four weeks, but after only ten days we have growth!

Reminds me of GROOT!

It’s so cute!  I can’t wait to see the parsley!

Favorite # THREE

It is adorable when Elvis sits at the bar and watches me in the kitchen.

I love how he sets his little chin on the counter.

LB captured this adorable moment…

I love that cat!

Favorite # FOUR

My new dogwood tree

We’ll be looking for a perfect spot to plant it this weekend!

Favorite # FIVE

Lydia and Rory

It may be that this is a regular occurrence.

These baby girls are adorable and they have my heart!

Here they are in their new spring-themed matching dresses handmade by Aunt Mamie.

Adorable!

I’m not the only one who loves Friday!  There is a lot of excitement in my office on Friday mornings.  Typically Ms. G will be dancing as she comes in and will escalate from there.  This morning she didn’t feel much like dancing.  This didn’t seem to matter to the other ladies as they pressed her.  She wasn’t going to comply which prompted a log onto YouTube for an appropriately titled tune.

Thus was my introduction to Bishop Bullwinkle and his song was stuck in my head all day.

Hopefully you will be as entertained by this as I am!

Thank you for taking time out of your day to stop by my blog.

I have FINALLY started my herb garden… slowly but surely as it will take 4 weeks for the seeds to germinate.

Patience is a virtue.

The Healthy Kitchen Herb Trio Kit… its easy to Grow Basil, Parsley and Chives Seeds In Your Own Kitchen!

That remains to be seen.

Stay tuned.

Favorite # TWO

I can’t stop shopping loft.com.

Right now I’m obsessed with these Floral Embroidered Riviera Pants

(in Marisa Fit… very important)

these are currently sitting in my shopping bag.

Because they are $69.50, I will wait for a sale and make up a reason to treat myself.

Favorite # THREE

Date night on Thursday

because there was a one night only opportunity to see a good show.

AND

because Friday nights are reserved for collapsing in the recliner

(after a harrowing week at work) while enjoying Kim’s little pizzas and a good movie on the big TV.

Favorite # FOUR

There is nothing sweeter than a tiny baby girl.

Rory was one month old on 3/14/18 when her Mama posted this…

And later this…

Precious!

Favorite # FIVE

My Mama gets to keep Lydia typically once a week.

Lately if they take a walk, they will wander over to Glammy’s house.  Yesterday Mama sent me an account of their adventure with pictures:

Today Lydia and Mema took the pink princess car out for a ride.

Lydia wanted to visit Glammy’s house, but Glammy wasn’t home.

Lydia told Mema that all she had to do was push the buttons by the garage door so they could go inside.  She even offered to show Mema how to do it.

It was disappointing that they wouldn’t be able to come inside since no one was home.  Mema suggested that Lydia pick a flower and leave it at the door for Glammy.

Before she left, Lydia decided to leave the flower on the garden fairy’s book instead.

“I hope she finds it”, said Lydia.

Glammy came home that afternoon and found that pink flower!

I love this story!

Friday Favorites: Barbie Edition

March 9, 2018

Today is

FRIDAY

March 9th

and it is the anniversary of the day the Barbie doll made its debut in 1959.

Therefore March 9th is National Barbie Day.

Created by Ruth Handler, Barbie’s full name is

Barbara Millicent Roberts

I know.

I have always been a Barbie FAN, along with my sister.  And if we weren’t outside playing in the dirt, we were in the house playing Barbies.

Today I’m dedicating my Friday Favorites to Barbie!

Favorite # ONE

Barbie’s Townhouse

(circa 1970)

Three levels of Barbie fun in the pink townhouse.

Complete with Barbie furniture and a personal elevator.  Barbie LOVED living in this townhouse!

Favorite # TWO

Shoes

once again, we’re talking about shoesspecifically the Buster Brown variety.

Back in the day, shoes were a means of transportation, not only for your feet, but for your Barbie doll.  Especially if she didn’t own a pink corvette.

Just bend her legs, set her inside, and VAROOOOM…

Favorite # THREE

Barbie’s Karosel KitchenThe Karosel came complete with an oven that roasted chicken, a refrigerator that would light up, a sink with a “modern” faucet, a dishwasher, a washing machine, and a dryer with a built-in clothes basket.  The kitchen would rotate with the push of a button and made for hours of fun.

Favorite # FOUR

Sweet Sixteen Barbie

Sweet Sixteen Barbie came with her own compact and real makeup.

Barbie looked pretty in her pink party dress and even prettier once her makeup had been applied!

Favorite # FIVE

Barbie’s Peeps

And first on the list is Barbie’s littler sister

Skipper

The Skipper doll (Skipper Roberts) was created in 1964.

Although she wasn’t as cute as Barbie,  Mattel kept trying and in 1975 we were introduced to

Growing Up Skipper

Just turn her arm and

voilà

You could “make her grow from a young girl to a teenager in seconds”.

If you have never heard of this little doll, watch this commercial

watch closely

There was  also

Barbie’s dear friend

Midge

Who was created in 1963 and looked rather plain compared to Barbie.  She was created to counteract criticism that Barbie was a sex symbol (source).

Good job Mattel!

Apparently Gina and I didn’t feel that she was plain enough.

When all was said and done, Midge looked like this:

Obviously there was a rogue hairdresser on site.

FYI to my little sister:

Tuesday Taylor

was not a true Barbie friend.

We always knew there was some sort of disharmony in the group, and assumed it to be the rogue hairdresser.

Alas, I imagine Tuesday Taylor was to blame!

The 1970’s Ideal Toy Company doll was released in an attempt to dislodge Mattel’s Barbie as the top fashion doll. (source)

Her hair do should have been our first clue.  Poor Midge.

We all know a little girl that loves Barbie dolls and has at least one doll, if not a whole collection of them.

Wish her a Happy Barbie Day!!

Use #NationalBarbieDay to post your pics on social media.

Friday Favorites: Bee Gees Edition

March 2, 2018

I haven’t been this excited about Friday since last Friday!

Ready for a party!

There’s Night Fever in the air

Today my Friday Favorites post has a theme…

Friday Favorites:  Bee Gees Edition

Favorite # ONE

Stayin’ Alive: One Night of The Bee Gees at the Thrasher-Horne Center

Described as “the World’s #1 Tribute to the Bee Gees!  Stayin’ Alive is the quintessential tribute band to the Bee Gees, capturing the excitement of live performance and the tender subtleties of the human voice.” (source)

It was a last minute decision, but LB and I decided to check it out, then we convinced Mama to come along.

Favorite # TWO

Spending fun time with Mama

We found our seats and made our way toward them.  There was another couple already settled in the seats adjacent to ours.  I whispered to LB “let Mama go first” my thought was that she could have the seat next to the strangers because she never meets one.  Ironically, she knew the couple and it was a happy reunion for them all.

On the way home we had the pleasure of hearing about Mama’s old boyfriends, what became of them, and how God took care of her by bringing her together with my Daddy.

Amen.

Favorite # THREE

A Text Message

from my nephew Clay

Clay Loves music and will almost always say he is jealous when I tell him about a concert I’m attending.  Clay was very jealous about missing out on this particular concert since the Bee Gees are a favorite and [I’m assuming] because his Mema was going without him.  In an attempt to make him feel like he was a part of the event, Mama sent several video clips of the concert.  They were sent to our family group text.

This was Clay’s response:

And it truly made me LOL

The video texts did not do justice to the tribute band.  The band was actually pretty good.

Favorite # FOUR

An SNL excerpt that was played during a costume change.

Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake are hilarious!

Favorite # FIVE

My Psychedelic Concert Outfit

Because there has to be a bit of style in this mix!

and a BONUS…

Favorite # SIX

[obviously]

The Bee Gees

It’s Friday…. You should be dancin’

Welcome!

I’m Kim… and I love Pretty clothes, Pretty décor, Pretty days, and Pretty much anything that involves family and fun.  Growing up, My Mama told me more than once “Pretty is as Pretty does” …encouraging me to focus on the inner pretty girl, as she is the one that matters most.

Here on my blog, I’m sharing what I see as pretty.  Whether it be an outfit, an experience, an event, a memory or thought.  Hopefully I’ll share something that will be interesting, useful, or make you smile along the way.
