Super Bowl Sunday

I don’t care a whole lot about football, but LB has a couple of friends who come over to watch the super bowl game with us every year.  This year we had a great time catching up and EATING.  I enjoyed seeing them!

In addition to that, I did notice that Tom Brady didn’t don a mask when he arrived at the stadium.  He didn’t wear a mask at all.  He also took some flack about not wearing a mask.

Is Tom Brady a Superhero?

The liberals are unhappy.

So YES!

I recently completed my 21 day Daniel fast which inspired me to look for ways to make vegetables taste better.  One of my favorites is a recipe that I put together using several other recipes I found.

Cheese Sauce

with no cheese

Vegan Cheese Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 2 Yukon gold potatoes
  • 2  diced carrots
  • 10 oz. frozen cauliflower or butternut squash
  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 ¼ tsp lemon juice
  • water

Instructions:

Boil potatoes and carrots together in a pot until fork tender.  Reserve the water to add back into the cheese sauce.

Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender, along with some of the reserved water and blend. Add more of the reserved water to thin to desired consistency.

I’ll be making another batch this week!

What would we do without UHaul America?  If all you have is a compact car, have no fear… you can rent a UHaul truck for the day.  Anyone can do it.  This week my daughter rented one and on Wednesday night it was loaded with the contents of her house, to move to her new house.  I was able to take Thursday afternoon off to help unload it.  I felt like I worked hard.  My fitbit showed 17, 499 steps and the end of the move.  But I didn’t do nearly as much as my nephew Clay.

What a sweetheart he is.  One in a million!

Clay is a great guy!

It’s Friday!

YAY

Someone suggested to me today, that Friday should be called YayDay.

Seems fitting to me.

Let me start my Friday Favorites with last Saturday.  We threw a BIG party for Mama’s 75th birthday.

Favorite # ONE

She seemed to have a really good time.

We had a band, a sing-a-long, a Mary video, lots of family, food, balloons… it was quite an event!

Happy Birthday LB!

LB had a birthday Tuesday before last, and would have been in last week’s Friday Favorites if I had created a post to share.

Hoping to get me to spend more time on the back patio, he chose an outdoor heater as his birthday present.

We celebrated the big day by going to LaNopalera for dinnerand taking the next day off.

LB wanted to go to the beach for a cookout.

So we did.LB will always be my favorite!

Carrot Cake

February 3rd was National Carrot Cake Day.

I asked LB to choose a birthday cake from my Southern Living Cake book.  Guess which one he picked. That’s right, he wanted a giant carrot cake for his birthday.

And on the subject of cakes, this week I recieved a request to make a birthday cake for our favorite soon-to-be 3 year old Rory.

A Cake like no Other

This is an example of the cake that Emily believes Rory will love, since she loves the story of Sleeping Beauty.

Reminiscent of the birthday cake the three fairies made for Aurora.  It looks like a mess, so I’m sure I won’t have any trouble replicating.

What Happened?

February 4, 2021

It has been exactly 2 months since I published a blog post.

There was so much to talk about!  I missed posting about Christmas, New Year’s happenings, The Daniel Fast, and LB’s birthday.  Although I managed to write up a couple (Dec 11 and Dec 20), I never published either and they are both sitting in my drafts folder.  I may backdate and finish them at some point.

What happened?

I have been preoccupied with political news.  Nearly obsessed.  I have read a lot of posts on Telegram and watched many videos on Rumble.  I don’t buy into all of what I see, but much of it makes sense to me.

And for the record, there is nothing anyone can say that will change my mind about the election fraud that occurred.  The evidence will be heard eventually.

“For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light” (Luke 8:17 ESV).

Wednesday was Amanda’s birthday but since she had to go out of town on business, we gathered Sunday night to celebrate.  Amanda requested a birthday cake that is reminiscent of one my Mema Reid used to make.  I have never been able to make mine look like hers.

It is a yellow layer cake with chocolate icing.  The icing is fudgy like candy

Its Friday!

This week EVERY day has been as wonderful as Friday because I have been on vacation.  LB and I didn’t make plans to go anywhere in particular, but decided to take it a day at a time.

As I mentioned previously we went to EPCOT last Friday.  We spent the night then on Saturday, enjoyed a late breakfast and a shopping trip to Tanger Outlets in Daytona.  Once we made it back home, it was clear that a recovery day was in order.  So Sunday was a day spent doing nothing.

On Monday, late in the afternoon, we made spur of the moment plans to go to South Carolina.  Richard was on track to open a new restaurant on Tuesday, and LB thought it would be fun to surprise him by attending.

I mentioned in an earlier post that LB and I had visited St. Augustine to see the Nights of Lights, but it was SO CROWDED, there was no getting into the historic district.

We decided to go back on a weeknight during our vacation, and that happened on Thursday. We had a great time and the city was beautiful, as always

Since we couldn’t get tickets to President Trump’s rally in Valdosta on Saturday night, we decided we would go to Fernandina to hear a band that LB follows.  So we went to Fernandina, checked into the Hampton Inn (which was very cute), walked around the town visiting shops and enjoying the Christmas displays, we had dinner at Pepper’s and then walked to the place were the Bluff Five Band was scheduled to play.  It was outdoors and it was just too cold.

So we went back to our cute hotel and watched the rally in Valdosta…

Epcot Adventure

December 2, 2020

At first it was going to be The 25th Annual 2020 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival that Stephanie and Amanda wanted us to attend.  So LB bought tickets to EPCOT for November 13th.

Then it was decided that we should instead attend the Taste of EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays on the Friday after Thanksgiving.  So LB changed our reservations and tickets.

On Friday morning, LB and I headed to Orlando to meet Stephanie and Amanda.

We met at the Pop Century Resort and took the new Skyliner to Epcot.  I am not a Disney park regular, like many in my family, so I left it up to my girls to show us the Disney ropes.  For starters, they suggested that I participate in the

Holiday Cookie Stroll

and then led us to the World Showplace where we enjoyed some Festival Favorites and picked up our first cookie.

Festival Favorites at the World Showplace

Gingerbread Cookie

It was at the world showplace where we began our day of eating tiny servings of International dishes.

It was great.

Our next stop was the Yukon Holiday Kitchen at the Canada Pavilion where we picked up our

Peppermint Pinwheel Cookie

For some reason the girls did not want this cookie and asked for permission to swap it for two of another.  I haven’t tasted it yet, but I think it is kinda cute.

Stop number three was the Bavaria Holiday Kitchen at the Germany Pavilion where we collected our

          Linzer Cookie

Cookie number four was at the American Holiday Table at the America Pavilion

Chocolate Crinkle Cookie

Later that day, after enjoying a few of EPCOT’s attractions, we stopped to purchase our fifth Cookie Stroll cookie at the L’Chaim Holiday Kitchen [between the Morocco and France Pavilions]; the

Black-and-White Cookie

LB doesn’t know it yet, but I’ve already eaten this cookie.  Yep… all by myself.

The L’Chaim Holiday Kitchen was the last cookie stroll stop and was also my favorite dining spot.  There was a tiny pastrami sandwich and potato latkes topped with smoked salmon.

The prize cookie was the

Minnie Peppermint Cookie

at the Holiday Sweets and Treats, where Amanda got her favorite chocolate peppermint shake.TINY chocolate peppermint shake.

To house my expensive collectible cookies, I purchased this cutie collectible containerwith the help of Amanda’s season-ticket-holder-discount.

Our EPCOT Adventure was a fun day and I would definitely recommend the Taste of EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays event.

This week I came across an article that had me ‘grinning like a mule eating briars’

Bless Your Heart

… and Other Southern Sayings.

It was written by Chloe Ann and can be found here.

I use ‘Bless Your/Her/His Heart’ often, just to reply to a comment.  And most of the sayings in this article I remember hearing from my grandparents.  Mema used ‘Kindly’ and ‘Hasslin’. Everyone used ‘Fixin’, ‘Lordy Mercy’, ‘Reckon’, ‘Yonder’, and ‘Yall’.  Grandpa would have Dinner and Supper as opposed to Lunch and Dinner.

One that I didn’t read in this article was ‘Shoo’, meaning ‘get away’ which my Papa used when he told a story about his Grandmother.  As he came to the end of the story, using a high pitched voice he would say “Shoooo you chickens”

This lady didn’t miss a beat in the press conference that was held on Thursday.

She stands here in this photo as a member of “an elite strike force team”.

She is my new hero.

I asked a coworker today if she watched the news conference about the election fraud.  She replied, “No, News4Jax said there was no fraud; that Trump needs to just give it up”.

Whether you agree with that or not, you owe it to yourself to hear the truth.

Welcome!

I’m Kim… and I love Pretty clothes, Pretty décor, Pretty days, and Pretty much anything that involves family and fun.  Growing up, My Mama told me more than once “Pretty is as Pretty does” …encouraging me to focus on the inner pretty girl, as she is the one that matters most.

Here on my blog, I’m sharing what I see as pretty.  Whether it be an outfit, an experience, an event, a memory or thought.  Hopefully I’ll share something that will be interesting, useful, or make you smile along the way.
