Rainy Weekend

July 24, 2017

Saturday and Sunday are typically filled with opportunity to DO WHATEVER I WANT!  This past weekend had limited possibilities due to the rain.  Nevertheless, LB and I made the most of our rainy weekend.  Following our Friday night little pizzas, we watched a movie and stayed up too late.  Because of the late night, we slept in Saturday morning.

The day began beautifully with the sun shining bright and hardly a cloud in the sky.  After straightening the house and finishing the laundry, I went outside to work with my needy plants and pull the weeds out of my marigold flower bed. It needed work then and it still needs work.

Then the thunder began.  It wasn’t long after that the rain started.

So I went inside and got on the treadmill.

The day seemed to fly by and become date night time before we knew it!  There were three possibilities for the evening.  1.  Jerry’s Sports Grille is a restaurant near the beach that we enjoy going to for a steak dinner.  And if it isn’t football season, there will be a cover band playing.  2. The Cellar Upstairs is our favorite Saturday night place and one of our favorite bands “Ain’t too Proud” would be entertaining.  3.  Ragtime Tavern Seafood & Grill is a beach side restaurant with live music.  But it was rainy and we didn’t feel like going out.

Luckily LB had purchased a rack of lamb from Costco the week prior and was in the mood for some home cooking.  This was a first for me but after I figured out what to do with it, we ended the day with a very nice dinner.

And then we watched Deadpool.  No commentary… watch the trailer for yourself.

The sun didn’t tease us on Sunday morning.  It was overcast outside and the rain would be coming soon.  I made the usual Sunday morning Breakfast for a King which LB thoroughly enjoyed.  Afterward I began assembling breakfast wraps and lunches for the upcoming work week.

This is my breakfast wrap assembly line.   LB loves them!

After some treadmill time we decided to brave the weather and head to the store.  Obviously if you can’t hang by the pool, or go to the beach, shopping is the only logical option.

And we picked up some nice shorts for LB

We ended the day with dinner at our favorite Mexican Restaurant LaNopaleraA rainy weekend turned out to be a pretty good weekend!

Shopping at Ross

July 18, 2017

LB and I checked out a new shopping location Sunday afternoon

Because Gina (my sister) came to my house Saturday styling some of the cutest jeans I’ve ever seen, I set out to find a pair for myself.  Obviously I don’t need a reason to go shopping, but it’s always nice to have a goal in mind.

The jeans were unique and appeared to have been deconstructed and pieced together.  Patchwork jeans might be a better description.

She wouldn’t send me a pictureNo Luck

There are A LOT OF THINGS at Ross which was a bit overwhelming at first, but I pressed on, hoping to find those jeans.

Along the way I came across some items of interest

…like this top.  It has a cute elephant design on the front. But a stripe down the back that didn’t make sense.

Later I found a similar top (same fabric and same eggplant color).  Unlike the elephant top it has a choker neckline (and a sugar-skull).  It was only $7.99Bought it!

Some items were very cute

Some not so much

I was impressed with the selection of designer handbags

…and especially liked the Betsey Johnson bags

I never found those jeans, but I may be going back to Ross for a handbag soon.

Did I ever mention that I’m a shopaholic?

Happy Birthday Lydia!

July 17, 2017

The invitations were in the mail

and arrangements were made for Lydia’s birthday party to take place at my Mama’s house.  As a matter of fact, when I arrived home from work on Friday night, the kids were at her house decorating for the next day.

Everyone was preparing for the big party… anticipating having a great time!Peanuts dancing peanuts charlie brown a charlie brown christmas GIF

Then a discovery was made.  Mama had a broken water pipe in her front yard.  LB turned off the water at the street and began investigating the trouble.   Soon after the discovery, a conversation with the water company revealed the pipe may have been leaking for 10 days.  It turned out to be a tree root that had caused the damage.Luckily LB and a good friend were able to repair the pipe and restore Mama’s water, although that didn’t happen until the next day.

The plan would have to be adjusted.

Since I live right next door, the obvious and logical conclusion is to move the party over to my house.  It didn’t seem possible at the time, but I was able to get the place organized.  The kids brought the decorations over and plan B ensued.

The big T-W-O birthday party went on as scheduled.

There was a plenitude of people…Goodies Galore…A plethora of presents…

LOTS of presents!

Little Lydia received so many presents, her Mama and Daddy had to have help transporting them to their house.

She loved all of her gifts, and had a great time with her Mama opening each one.

But there was one gift that Glammy was able to present to the Birthday Girl… the pink princess piano

Lydia wanted me to play first, so she took hold of my fingers and pressed the keys… then we experimented with the microphoneAnd Glammy showed Lydia how to play “Itsy Bitsy Spider”It turned out to be a lovely day for a pretty little girlHappy Birthday Lydia!

Glammy loves You!

Obviously we had a good time at Kirkland’s.

Next stop was a shop that I haven’t experienced called Dress Barn.  The name isn’t all that pretty, but the prices are.  And the staff was very helpful and courteous.  I was especially impressed with the young lady that assisted me.

Now there is something about the word CLEARANCE that screams to me and I am immediately drawn to the back of the store.

And there I go…Cute dress and handbag.  I walked right past them both as the CLEARANCE sign screamed on and those yellow Capris I’ve been looking for… FOUND THEM!Next stop… UM…

Lee Wrangler Vanity Fair Outlet.      I’m still having trouble grouping this trio, but we found some useful items in this shopa handy dandy Nautica Cap.

And… Rainbow Dash and Princess Peppa.  I am a SUCKER for My Little Pony and anything else that Lydia likes!I have Always been an Express Fan.  Every time I walk through the doors of this shop I begin to covet (tears)

After a quick stop to pose with this

Pink Sugar BearWe checked into Old NavyIt used to be that I could walk into an Old Navy store and find something that I thought I had to have right away.  This time LB found something he had to have… Summer Shirts on Sale!  Blue/White striped, Pink, White, and Multi-colored checked Oxford Men’s shirts.  Although I did not go into the crowded dressing room with him, I did eventually see the shirts on him and love how they look.  The deals at Old Navy were great.

And I eventually came across these pretty little shoes marked WAY down.  The shoes at Old Navy are very cute, and even more cute when you find them on sale. (LB practicing with the camera features again)

We spent A LOT of time in Old Navy, then headed to another shop The items in this shop are just as pretty as can be.

Nearly all of the tops in this store are priced at $38 except this oneBy the look on my face you can see that I wasn’t sure about it because it is very poofy, but I bought it anyway because LB said I shouldI would have spent more time in Francesca’s because there were so many pretty things to see, but it was getting late and there was one more stop to makeThere’s that word again

We wound up our shopping adventure at the Daytona Beach Tanger Outlet around 3:30 PMIt was a shop till you drop kind of day!  And I’d spend any day doing the same!

Daytona Beach Weekend

July 10, 2017

The weekend came early for LB and myself when I was happily able to take half a day off work Friday.  We had originally planned to head to our Daytona Beach destination on Saturday morning, but a last minute decision to add an extra night to this mini-vacation resulted in a drive down on Friday afternoon.  We packed, kissed Elvis goodbye, and headed south.  After only one stop for a Chik-Fil-A diet lemonade, we arrived at the Hampton Inn and began making plans for the evening.

Eventually deciding to stop at Racing’s North Turn, we enjoyed hot wings, salad, and musical entertainment by a group calling themselves “Parallel”

Day 2

Saturday morning began with breakfast at the hotel then picking out a lounge chair by the pool.  The weekly Saturday pool part at Hampton starts at 12:00 with D.J. Drew and his pool party playlist.  The Hampton Inn Daytona Shores Oceanfront is a unique hotel.  The general manager Sandy (shown above in the coral colored dress) has put together a weekly summer pool party including a cookout (all you can eat burgers, hotdogs, chips, and drinks).  At a designated time during the pool party, she has the kitchen and cleaning staff out for introductions and an amusing dance to the song “Hot Hot Hot” by Buster Poindexter.LB and I enjoyed some pool time during our visit.

And he enjoyed trying out the picture taking features on his new phone.

Typically the summer will bring with it afternoon showers.  This Saturday was no exception.  When the wind blew my hat off of my head I decided it was time to pack up and go to the room. But the day was not over.  The summer shower ended and it was time to get ready to go out for the evening.   The Daytona Beach FL Bandshell Live Summer Concert Series hosts tribute bands every Saturday night.  This weekend featured a band called Wholigans.  I probably don’t need to elaborate at this point… just click the link and check out their website.  We enjoyed the show and shared a Mahi-Mahi taco from Sloppy Joe’s, then left the venue to do the unthinkable… walk back to the hotel.

Let me say that again…

WALK back to the hotel

That’s me with my chair in tow, about to complete a 5.5 mile trek back to Hampton Inn.  My take on this:  I have logged MANY miles on the treadmill or through a mall, etc., but walking on the beach is a totally different experience.  My calves are cursing me as I type this post.

The walk back was long, but I’m happy to say we made it.

Along the way we encountered a cookout on the beach (grill and all), a pair of glasses, a cover band, and this sea serpent: someone spent a lot of time on this fella… and I appreciate the effort.  He was pretty cute.

The walk back was moonlit and I am happy to have enjoyed the beautiful night at the ocean shore and conversation with my LB.

He likes to arrange for adventure and fun… and that is typically exactly what we have.

Daytona Beach Weekend Day Three involves shopping and deserves a post all its own.

To Be Continued

Enjoying a Little Light Music

July 3, 2017

Sunday was a lazy day… to start.  A typical Sunday of Breakfast for a King, then treadmill, followed by an hour by the pool… Then LB said, “Do you want to go somewhere?”

Well of course I want to go somewhere.  Who doesn’t want to go somewhere?

LB had a plan.  The Little Light Music Concert Series at the St. Simon’s Island Lighthouse.Every summer from May to September this concert series provides the residents and vacationers of the Golden Isles with a place to picnic from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM while enjoying musical entertainment. (source)

Tickets are $12 for adults and children under 12 are admitted free of charge.  Again… if you plan to attend, bring a picnic as there are no vendors.  People have come to this event prepared… some even bringing furniture resembling small coffee tables to set with picnic treats.  Everyone will be noshing and you WILL be jealous.

Sunday July 2nd featured Still Cruzin’… a band with members who have played with muscians such as James Brown, Percy Sledge, and the Temptations.  They present Motown and R&B hits including “My Girl” and “Crazy Love”.  The Attendees enjoy dancing on the lawn to these hits and others.  It is an entertaining event if you enjoy relaxing outdoors, people watching and even more fun if you like to exhibit your moves on the “dance floor”.

Friday Favorites

June 30, 2017

What an easy Post… Friday Favorites is a collection of things I’ve enjoyed this week that I want to share with you!  From love notes to delectable dishes, I hope you have experienced some of the same…

Favorite # ONE

Morning love notes written on my breakfast napkin

Life with You is Sweet!
Life with You is Sweet!
The ONLY ONE for Me is You!
The ONLY ONE for Me is You!
Baby It's You!
Baby It’s You!
You make Me Smile!
You make Me Smile!
I'm So Glad You came into My Life!
I’m So Glad You came into My Life!

I don’t know if it was breakfast or lunch, but at some point when we came to live together, LB set a table for me and wrote a love note on my napkin.  It made such an impression on me that he hasn’t stopped.  I get a breakfast note every morning and I have been saving them for 5+ years.  Precious.

Favorite # TWO

This Rock-A-Billy Jive Dance by Marty & Miss Dee.   Music by the Cues.

LB and I took a 6 week dance lesson early this year in preparation for the Rock-A-Billy Prom that took place in February (more about this next year).  This couple has inspired me to learn dance more than any I’ve found on YouTube.  If you can find better… I challenge you to submit.

If this doesn’t make you want to get up and dance, I don’t know what will!

Favorite # THREE

Grits

Sunday morning found me out of town and checking out of a hotel room to head for home.  Because the continental breakfast in the hotel was not worth… whatever… LB and I went to the Gypsy Cab Co. for brunch.  If you have never enjoyed an Eggs Benedict Brunch, get out and go enjoy one.  Typically you will have a choice of hash browns or grits for a side.  I do not want to discount the Eggs Benedict in any way whatsoever, but when I dipped into the little bowl filled with grits (plain grits, no cheese) I was taken home.  SO GOOD!  Does anyone else appreciate grits?  You can’t get this from a Quaker packet.  I Declare that my Favorite # Three this week was my Grits Experience.  Yeah.

Favorite # FOUR

I’m going to sound like a PIG after the whole GRITS thing, but… another favorite is the box of Dunkin’ Donuts Munchkins that was presented to my group this week.  I am a perpetual dieter, so bear with me as I ask… WHEN was the last time I had a munchkin????? OR a donut for that matter?

Since life is short, I let myself enjoy several of these little delights this week.  Believe it or not, blueberry, not chocolate, was my favorite.  Thank you for the Munchins.  This girl really enjoyed them!

Favorite # FIVE

You will be hard pressed to find me not having this little Lovely as one of my Favorites.  Once again, my sweet Mama has captured a moment as she typically does.  This precious little GlamBaby is expressing herself in song.  We have no idea what is the name of this song, but [as my Mama explained] Lydia knows.  Although it is likely the opening song to Peppa Pig or Curious George, I like to think it is her own sweet rendition of “How Great Thou Art”

I haven’t figured out how to properly present this yet… but you must see this little musician in the making…

Welcome!

I’m Kim… and I love Pretty clothes, Pretty décor, Pretty days, and Pretty much anything that involves family and fun.  Growing up, My Mama told me more than once “Pretty is as Pretty does” …encouraging me to focus on the inner pretty girl, as she is the one that matters most.

Here on my blog, I’m sharing what I see as pretty.  Whether it be an outfit, an experience, an event, a memory or thought.  Hopefully I’ll share something that will be interesting, useful, or make you smile along the way.
