Donny & Marie

July 1, 2018

 Concert Time!

I have been looking forward to this for several weeks:

Donny and Marie Osmond

performing at the St. Augustine Amphitheater on Sunday night July 1st. LB and I have attended many concerts.  Among our favorites have been Garth Brooks and The Eagles.  Although LB may have a different opinion, I believe Donny and Marie were the best thus far!

Celebrity siblings Donny and Marie Osmond have been in show business since they were babies.  Donny was only 5 years old when he appeared on the Andy Williams show.

During the concert, many photos were displayed from early in his music career, which took me strolling down Memory Lane.

Hearing him sing songs like Go Away Little Girl and Puppy Love reminded me why he was such a heartthrob!

Donny would continuously grace the cover of Tiger Beat when he was a teen idol.

At 60 years old, he is still as handsome as ever… and Marie is just as beautiful!

Donny and Marie Osmond have been performing in Vegas since 2008 and a chat with a friend gave me reason to believe the concert I was seeing was very similar to their Vegas production.  Although they have always been entertaining on television, nothing compares to their live performance.

More Memory Lane:  I can remember the Donny and Marie variety show on television in the 70’s and when they co-hosted a talk show in the 90’s.

At one point during the concert, Donny asked that the audience like his Facebook page and send a message to win a prize.

I managed to NOT pull this off as intended

and posted on my own Facebook wall/page instead.

A lucky woman with Facebook skills got to walk to the stage and accept Donny’s latest CD.

That was fine… she didn’t get to go home with LB and I Did!  (Also LB bought the CD!)

Transformation Tuesday

May 9, 2018

This Transformation Tuesday post is not about a makeover or a new hair style.  It is totally about how my Tuesday evening was transformed into a completely different evening than I expected!

As I was driving home from work Tuesday evening, my cell phone began to ring.  It was LB.  He had news to share.  Apparently he had been stalking StubHub all day anticipating a drop in price for concert tickets to see

James Taylor

& His All-Star Band

As luck would have it, LB managed to purchase two tickets to see James Taylor for twenty-nine dollars each.

I have to admit that once I was in the car with him, heading to the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, I began to look forward to the event.

Upon arrival it was obvious that previous plans to have Bonnie Raitt join James Taylor had been changed.  Signs were posted every three feet “Bonnie Raitt will not be performing tonight”.  I had heard the announcement on the radio about a week prior, however I also heard a recorded announcement that had not been changed in conjunction with the change of plans.  I know I would have enjoyed hearing Bonnie Raitt as I am familiar with many of her songs.  James Taylor songs, not so much.

Although it was a nice concert and I enjoyed being there, I recognized only a few songs he performed: “Fire and Rain” and “Up on the Roof”.

We had pretty good seats.

At this point in my story I’ll interject a little known fact: I am not a James Taylor fan.  Apparently I missed the era of his popularity.  I was, however, happy to know that LB was very excited.  For that reason and others I was more than happy to accompany him to the concert. And I thoroughly enjoyed my evening with LB.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to stop by my blog.

Round Round Get Around, I Get Around

April 16, 2018

Yeah!

Just like the song that was made famous by the Beach Boys.

And it is true… I do get around…

 Thanks to LB!

Since this past weekend was no exception, I’m going to take a minute to post a weekend recap.  Saturday was a workday and we were too exhausted to go out that night; Sunday morning was rainy and I was becoming concerned that the weekend was going to be a bust;  But all turned out well, and the fun began on Sunday afternoon.

Things were looking dismal, and we thought it was going to be a wash out, but the rain passed through late Sunday and we were able to make it to a concert to see

The Beach Boys

Pictured below is the reason I’m familiar with songs by the Beach Boys:

This record is older than me [believe it or not] and is one of the many that I grew up hearing.  On Sunday night I was privileged to hear that sound live.

It was fun and a great sing-along time.

And it was a surprise to me that the favorite song seemed to be Help Me Rhonda.  I have to admit, it was great fun to sing along.

Older. Than. Me.

The St. Augustine Amphitheater is my favorite venue for concerts.  As you can see from this picture, there can be a bit of a traffic problem when leaving, which is typical of this type of event.  LB and I have learned that it is best to walk.  In doing so the traffic is avoided and there is less guilt from the high calorie nachos that are consumed.  [My fitbit counted 19,746 steps that day!]

I’m looking forward to our next event there.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to stop by my blog.

The Million Dollar Quartet

March 15, 2018

In November 2016 LB and I enjoyed a trip to

Las Vegas

While we were there an advertisement for a show caught my eye:

We didn’t see The Million Dollar Quartet because LB had already purchased tickets to see

Human Nature Jukebox

at the Venetian

(which was a very good show).

A year and four months later there would be a one night only opportunity to see the Vegas show we had missed courtesy of the FSCJ Artist Series.

The Million Dollar Quartet

is a musical based on a happenstance quartet at Sun Records on December 4, 1956.

It was a day when Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash happened to be together at the Sun Record recording studio in Memphis, Tennessee.  More than 60 years later, the random Tuesday happening is being retold on stage in a very lively performance by talented musicians.

The show begins with the well-known performer Carl Perkins who is scheduled at the Sun Records recording studio to record what is hoped to be his comeback record.  Newcomer Jerry Lee Lewis (on piano), is also hoping for an opportunity to record.  While they are there, Johnny Cash stops by to talk to the record producer Sam Philips.  Next on the scene Elvis Presley drops in, accompanied by his girlfriend.   As the story goes, the four performers soon have a jam session going.

Several favorites were performed in the musical:

Blue Suede Shoes

was a topic of discussion as it was Carl Perkins’ first hit and handed off to Elvis Presley while Carl was recovering from an accident.

Folsom Prison Blues

is a favorite that assisted me in gaining a speeding ticket one morning while I was on my way to work.

Hound Dog

is one of the greatest songs of all time (according to Rolling Stone magazine) and had the audience on its feet.

Great Balls of Fire

is the final number as the Sun Record producer sees there is still hope for his small recording studio due to the sounds of newcomer/one of a kind Jerry Lee Lewis.

It was a goosebump moment when the cast attempted to recapture the moment the photo was taken:

Friday Favorites: Bee Gees Edition

March 2, 2018

I haven’t been this excited about Friday since last Friday!

Ready for a party!

There’s Night Fever in the air

Today my Friday Favorites post has a theme…

Friday Favorites:  Bee Gees Edition

Favorite # ONE

Stayin’ Alive: One Night of The Bee Gees at the Thrasher-Horne Center

Described as “the World’s #1 Tribute to the Bee Gees!  Stayin’ Alive is the quintessential tribute band to the Bee Gees, capturing the excitement of live performance and the tender subtleties of the human voice.” (source)

It was a last minute decision, but LB and I decided to check it out, then we convinced Mama to come along.

Favorite # TWO

Spending fun time with Mama

We found our seats and made our way toward them.  There was another couple already settled in the seats adjacent to ours.  I whispered to LB “let Mama go first” my thought was that she could have the seat next to the strangers because she never meets one.  Ironically, she knew the couple and it was a happy reunion for them all.

On the way home we had the pleasure of hearing about Mama’s old boyfriends, what became of them, and how God took care of her by bringing her together with my Daddy.

Amen.

Favorite # THREE

A Text Message

from my nephew Clay

Clay Loves music and will almost always say he is jealous when I tell him about a concert I’m attending.  Clay was very jealous about missing out on this particular concert since the Bee Gees are a favorite and [I’m assuming] because his Mema was going without him.  In an attempt to make him feel like he was a part of the event, Mama sent several video clips of the concert.  They were sent to our family group text.

This was Clay’s response:

And it truly made me LOL

The video texts did not do justice to the tribute band.  The band was actually pretty good.

Favorite # FOUR

An SNL excerpt that was played during a costume change.

Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake are hilarious!

Favorite # FIVE

My Psychedelic Concert Outfit

Because there has to be a bit of style in this mix!

and a BONUS…

Favorite # SIX

[obviously]

The Bee Gees

It’s Friday…. You should be dancin’

Thank you for taking time out of your day to stop by my blog.

Rockabilly Prom Jax

February 12, 2018

Rockabilly

is one of the earliest styles of rock and roll music, dating back to the early 1950s in the United States, particularly the South.
As a genre it combines the sound of Western musical styles such as country with that of rhythm and blues leading to what is considered “classic” rock and roll.
Some have also described it as a blend of bluegrass with rock and roll”, which would explain why I like some rockabilly music, as opposed to all.
(source)
On Saturday, February 10th, LB and I donned our best rockabilly attire to attend

THE 4th ANNUAL ROCKABILLY PROM:

ROCKIN ROMANCE EDITION

The Rockabilly Prom is a fundraiser to provide support to Oral Cancer Patients during their treatment.  The event is made possible by Cindy Platt and more specifically by ROCSTART
and Grease Rags Clothing Company.
I made reference to these last year in this post.
The Rockabilly Prom took place at the Ramona Pavilion Ballroom, a perfect venue for dancing.
This event was something that I have been looking forward to since last February because I love to dress up.  I’m not a huge fan of the rockabilly style of dress, but I have no problem wearing a pretty dress that is reminiscent of one that might have been popular in the 1950’s.
The dress I chose was described as an Audrey Hepburn Style Off Shoulder Swing Dress (Black, S)It provides great twirling action!
The Ramona Pavillion offers in-house catering for events at the location.
Dinner was served buffet style and included a garden salad, turkey, dressing, mixed vegetables, and rolls.
There was also a plethora of cupcakeswhich didn’t take long to disappear
As the name Rockabilly Prom suggests, there was dancingAnd with two bands and a D.J., there was plenty of music to dance the night away.
Except here where it appears everyone is on break.
LB and I had a great time.
LB had an especially good time!
We’re looking forward to the 5th Annual RB Prom!

Weekend Whirlwind

October 2, 2017

We had such a good time at the Hall & Oates concert last Thursday that I wrote a post about it and published it on Friday. LB was sitting close by as I played through the different YouTube videos that I shared in that post. He was happy that I was enjoying myself and was formulating a plan for a weekend whirlwind trip.  In addition, he decided he would surprise me again by purchasing tickets to a second concert to see my favorite duo…

Saturday Night!

In Charleston, South Carolina.

So we headed out Saturday afternoon and hit the road. Destination: North Charleston Coliseum, 5001 Coliseum Dr.
Since we arrived early for the concert there was time for dinner at

– you guessed it –

a Mexican Restaurant. Conveniently right across the street from the concert venue.LB enjoyed his chips and salsa!I was just happy to be out of the car.

But I did enjoy the chips and salsa, too.

The concert was great… didn’t make any new friends this time. But I managed to acquire a tee shirt!

The first day of October

began with a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks then a tour of downtown Charleston. It was a beautiful day, unlike the day my fellow Floridians were experiencing.  Each time we checked the security cameras it was raining at our house!  If ever there was a good time to take a whirlwind trip, [even if for no other reason than to follow the sun] it was this weekend!

We walked through Charleston Waterfront Park and back up the street along Rainbow Row towards the Historic Charleston City Market

Where LB was able to collect a few items he found to be interestingYes that is dehydrated okra.  And it is actually pretty good!

Welcome!

I’m Kim… and I love Pretty clothes, Pretty décor, Pretty days, and Pretty much anything that involves family and fun.  Growing up, My Mama told me more than once “Pretty is as Pretty does” …encouraging me to focus on the inner pretty girl, as she is the one that matters most.

Here on my blog, I’m sharing what I see as pretty.  Whether it be an outfit, an experience, an event, a memory or thought.  Hopefully I’ll share something that will be interesting, useful, or make you smile along the way.
