Things You’re Thankful For

November 22, 2017

Earlier this month The Blended Blog offered a Linkup to post the following

I missed the linkup that day, but thought it would be appropriate to share my “Things You’re Thankful For” answers today.

Here they are:

1. A New Friend

One particular person that I am thankful to have befriended this year comes to mind…

WendyI’ve got your back… Buddy!

2. Something Shiny

While I am thankful to own a car for all the practical reasons, this particular car has been exceptionally fun to own. Because he has not been the one to enjoy driving the new family car in the past, I encouraged LB to buy it for himself last year. He has thoroughly loved cruising in this beautiful vehicle, and I have enjoyed it too.

3. Someone Unexpected

Three years ago, at the Thanksgiving dinner table, it was announced that we would have a new family member join us the following July. This little girl tugs at my heart strings in a way that I didn’t know possible.

I’m thankful for the opportunity to love her.

4. Something Ordinary

Well.

Driving to work, I see these little guys everyday. They’re about as ordinary as it gets.  I’m thankful when I see them make it safely across the street.

5. A Person you’ve known for a long time

GinaThis picture was taken a long time ago, but I’ve known Gina even longer.  She is my younger sister and the first friend I ever had.  Every girl needs a sister who is a friend.  I’m thankful for mine.

6. Somewhere you go every day

Work

Despite the fact that I do not relish the commute to work, it is the one place that I go every weekday.  My motivation is the paycheck I receive and I can truthfully say that I am thankful for that!

7. Someone who has taught you something

MamaShe has taught me more than anyone else.  I am thankful to have been raised by such a sweet, generous, loving, godly example.

8. A faraway place

VermontMy Daddy loved Vermont in the winter.  He taught me to ski on the Toll Road in Vermont.  I hope to get back there someday.

9. Something that is saving your life right now

The WeekendBecause  beginning Friday night until Monday morning…

I DON’T HAVE TO TALK ON THE PHONE!

10. Someone you see every day

 LB

And I am extremely thankful for him!

He is especially handsome in the fall!

11. Something you enjoy doing

shopping

Daytona Beach Tanger Outlets Gallery 1And I do it every chance it get!

12. A Special Lady

LaurieShe is a precious lady with a kind heart.  I’m thankful that I can call her my friend.

13. A Special Place

Home

This is where I like to be!  SO Thankful for home!

14. A Special Gentleman

My nephew ClayWhile I am thankful for each member of my family, Clay (center) told my Mama that he promised my Daddy that he would take care of her.  He does a wonderful job, and I’m thankful for him.

15. Something warm

ElvisMy lap cat keeps me warm while we sit in the living room every night.  He is very patient with me when I want to snuggle and he welcomes me home when he greets me at the door.   I am thankful to have such a sweet little kitty.

I am Thankful to have SO MUCH to be Thankful for!

Disney Bound

November 16, 2017

About a year ago I read a blog post about:

What to Wear to Disney World

The post began with a lesson on proper amusement park footwear.  Next was provided advice on what type of  bag/backpack to carry.  The same post went on to include various summertime outfits that were very cute.  It was very informative and well written.

This week we experienced Magic Kingdom Monday in my family; I couldn’t help but remember the “What to Wear to Disney World” post.  However, when it comes to planning what to wear when visiting the Amusement Park, no one has it figured out like my sister and her family.Gina recently introduced me the the concept of

Disneybounding

For anyone who isn’t familiar with that concept, Disneybounding is a subdued, yet fashion-forward way for Disney fans to express their enthusiasm.

Although you likely had not considered this, there are rules and regulations that must be followed in order to obtain admission to the park.  Besides having a ticket, you must not disregard Disney’s prohibited activities.  One of these prohibited activities is dressing in costume; i.e. “engaging with other guests or impeding the operation while posing as or portraying any character in costume” (source) unless you’re under the age of 14.  Because fans aren’t permitted to dress up as these much loved characters, a sub-culture of fashion has arisen.  Instead of wearing costumes, Disneybounders dress in everyday outfits that are inspired by any particular Disney character within the Disney universe.

Here are some fun examples:

Stuart inspired by Aladdin posing with Minnie Mouse.

Here Levi strikes a fierce pose as little Mickey Mouse.

Sydney and Dillon are Minnie and Mickey inspired.

Sydney channeling a gloomy Eeyore.

And on another occasion a lovely Disney Princess.

Here Stuart is inspired by a character I couldn’t place.  When I asked Gina, she told me to “guess”.

I think Stuart’s inspiration may have come from GOOFY, but my apologies if I’m wrong!

Stuart has always been creative, but I believe my favorite creative character re-creation came from Hei Hei.

Good job Stu!

The baby girls in the family are little princesses and both Lydia and Thea dressed as Belle on our recent trip to the Magic Kingdom. It appears that Levi is impressed.

In addition to Disneybounding, there is another Disney fashion trend that is timeless.

The donning of the

Mouse Ears

This season produced a particular favorite: the coveted rose gold sequined Minnie Mouse ears.

I considered several possibilities for a part in the Disneybounding experience on our recent trip, but I’m not as flamboyant as I would like to be, and opted for a simple tee shirt.

That’s Me!

Magic Kingdom Monday

November 14, 2017

Earlier this year, it was decided that the whole extended, seventeen-member family, should take a trip to

Disney World

Where Dreams Come True.

I have to say that it was a wonderful idea and Stephanie did a great job organizing everything for the whole group.

It isn’t easy running the show.

Disney Pixar GIF by Disney

But it went off without a hitch, as everyone made it to the Orlando Fairfield Inn safe and sound on Sunday and later in the evening met at Disney Springs for dinner at Planet Hollywood.

After dinner we explored the shops at Disney Springs.  Zara was my favorite.

Then the Real Fun Began

On Monday, part of our crew woke up extremely early in an effort to beat the crowd to the Magic Kingdom. The rest of us slept awhile longer and made our way to the park later that morning.

We were met by the welcoming committee at the entrance to the park.(Kyle is okay)

Stephanie and Amanda introduced us to the Disney App.

They used it to assemble our family into a Disney group and to choose/amend the group’s FastPass options for various attractions.

We FastPassed our way to the Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Dumbo, Buzz Lightyear, the PhilharMagic Show, and Space Mountain.

We were also able to use the app to order lunch ahead of time and avoid standing in line at Pinocchio House.  It was pretty handy.

Then there was the carousel ride with Lydia.

I enjoyed our time chatting on the Carousel. That was my favorite.

I can’t say enough good things about the members of my family. They love to have a good time!

My Mama doesn’t typically spend several hours per day on her feet.  However, she seemed to enjoy herself.  My nephew Clay is a take-charge young man who made the day easier for Mama.

Clay’s wife Chynna and my daughter-in-law Emily, handled their small children with grace, right through the inevitable afternoon cranky time.

LB was able to navigate a Dayquil-dazed Kim through the park, and offer a tissue when necessary. And as I mentioned, Stephanie put the plan into action and kept the group together…making it a memorable day for us all…

Mary, Gina, Stuart, Stephanie, Amanda, Richard, Emily, Lydia, Kyle, Clay, Chynna, Dillon, Sydney, Levi, Thea

and My Favorite Cameraman…

‘Tis Near Halloween

November 2, 2017

“When witches go riding and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers, ’tis near Halloween”

~Anonymous

What is Halloween without dressing up, and without that perfect costume?

Every October there is a fervent scramble for finding something innovative and fun.

The Perfect Costume

does not have to be one of the hottest trends, but something LB and I can enjoy as a couple.

This year that would be the Joker and his Harlequin sidekick.
Our costume inspiration came from this jacket. The jacket is similar to one that was worn by Jared Leto as the Joker in Suicide Squad.

LB discovered it at Spirit Halloween which is a “Halloween Everything” shop.  Spirit Halloween finds its way into unoccupied retail places every fall and carries a variety of spooky accessories along with costumes for every shape and size. It was in 2016 while we were shopping for his Riddler costume, when this jacket screamed “buy me!”  He went back to the Spirit Halloween shop the day after Halloween and purchased the jacket for half the original price.

The Joker sunglasses added just the right touch!  And he just happened to have the perfect shoes!

You may be wondering WHY we feel compelled to dress up for Halloween.

We have been dressing for the occasion for several years and it all began because of the

Ballasso Halloween Event.

Our friends, Wayne and Laurie (whom I introduced here), go ALL OUT (to say the least) for this eerie evening at their home.  They decorate their yard and house, inside and out… so there are sites to see around every corner. And there are always new friends to meet.

I mistakenly thought Gene Simmons had made an appearancebut, alas, it was Paul Stanley!

Nevertheless, he was quite entertaining.

We enjoyed the most alarming appetizers imaginable!

There are hot dogs in this fella’s head.

Yes, that is a spider cheese ball below.  It is adorned with black olives, and encompassed by boiled eggs and Triscuit crackers.

Surrounded by all sorts of  frightening food, dreadful decor, and colorful characters…

LB and I had a great time!

Thank you Wayne and Laurie!

Revealed!

October 23, 2017

This post is part one of a weekend recap… because who wants to talk about Monday anyway???  It is part one because this subject (Revealed) deserves a post of it’s own.
I’ll start my weekend recap by stating the obvious:  My weekend began when I gleefully left work on Friday evening.

I headed home to gather my cupcakes (how’s that for a statement?)…then LB and I set out for the

Gender Reveal

Is it a boy or a girl?

The question is no longer simply answered…

but

REVEALED

How about ALL THAT PINK!

For anyone who doesn’t know, a gender reveal party is similar to a baby shower… minus the gift…

in most cases. The big sister is an exception, of course.

Moana was a happy addition to Lydia’s collection.

I read that there are oftentimes games where attendees guess the baby’s gender before the big moment.  For this reveal, there was hype in the form of group text messaging:

and some replied with their thoughts:

Some parties include providing ideas for the new baby’s name.  Glammy likes the name Finn, if anyone is interested.

So, this time next year I will be a Glammy of two little girls… and I love it.

Stephanie organized a lovely party, and everyone went home knowing the answer to the big question.

It’s A Girl!

Congratulations Richard and Emily!

And Lydia!

And the rest of the Family!

Better Late Than Never

October 6, 2017

I’m about six days late for this post, but as some wise Latin speaking individual once said

“potiusque sero quam numquam”

translation: it’s better to do something late, than to never do it at all.

And now that we’ve had our Latin lesson, on to the real topic of the day…

Fall Q&A

So… here are MY answers…

1. Favorite Fall Sweet Treat?  Halloween candy2. Red, Yellow or Green Apples?  Any… as long as it isn’t crisp.  I like my apples gritty.  Don’t judge.3. Favorite Fall Sport to Play? Not
4. Best Drink for Fall? Although it is ALL ABOUT PUMPKIN when fall comes around, apple cider comes to mind. I make sure we have a warmed pot ready at our annual ‘Sunday before Thanksgiving dinner’, and a few other times before year end.
5. Favorite Fall Activity? Vacation! It typically happens sometime in October. LB and I will hit the road and head for the Blue Ridge Parkway. There will be foliage, festivals, and fabulous fun along the way.

OH! And let’s not forget shopping!

It will happen!

6. Must Have Fall Purchase? Sweaters, Boots, Jackets
7. Pumpkins: Pick your own or store bought? Sadly, I’ve never been to a pumpkin patch.  So store bought it is. WalMart here we come!8. Real or Fake Pumpkin? Both.  WalMart has everything you need for fall home decorating.  But if you want to get fancy, Pier One is the place!
9. Favorite Halloween Costume? I have dressed up as Captain Hook, “I Dream of Jeannie”, a Cowgirl, Sandy (from Grease), a pirate wench, Poison Ivy (a Batman nemesis), a 20’s Flapper.  I think my favorite was the 1920’s Flapper Girl.Goofing around in the Halloween Store is also a good time!
10. College Football or NFL? There are only 2 football games that I watch during the year: The Super Bowl and the Florida/Georgia Game.  I’m not a big football fan.
11. Fall or Halloween Décor? With the exception of one big Jack-O-Lantern at the front door and a small one just inside the front door, the house is all decked out for fall! I posted about it here.
12. Raking Leaves or No Leaves to Rake? There are definitely an influx of leaves during the fall months, but LB manages them with the lawn mower.
13. Favorite Soup?  Probably Chicken Corn Chowder.  The recipe came from Mama.  I’ll eventually get around to sharing it on the blog.  Very tasty!
14. Favorite Fall Candle Scent? Spiced Cake. I recently purchased two from Pier One and they smell delicious… even when they aren’t lit!
15. Love or Hate Pumpkin Spice? Love it! And I think it is amusing that it is blathered about it incessantly!
16. Short Booties or Tall Boots?  short now, tall later, have both!
17. Favorite Halloween Candy? M&Ms peanut and Reese’s anything
18. PSL (Pumpkin Spice Latte) Yes or No?

Yes!

19. Hayride or Corn Maze? Never had a corn maze experience, so I suppose the answer is hayride.
20. Favorite Fall TV Show?  It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

 Love the Season!

Weekend Whirlwind

October 2, 2017

We had such a good time at the Hall & Oates concert last Thursday that I wrote a post about it and published it on Friday. LB was sitting close by as I played through the different YouTube videos that I shared in that post. He was happy that I was enjoying myself and was formulating a plan for a weekend whirlwind trip.  In addition, he decided he would surprise me again by purchasing tickets to a second concert to see my favorite duo…

Saturday Night!

In Charleston, South Carolina.

So we headed out Saturday afternoon and hit the road. Destination: North Charleston Coliseum, 5001 Coliseum Dr.
Since we arrived early for the concert there was time for dinner at

– you guessed it –

a Mexican Restaurant. Conveniently right across the street from the concert venue.LB enjoyed his chips and salsa!I was just happy to be out of the car.

But I did enjoy the chips and salsa, too.

The concert was great… didn’t make any new friends this time. But I managed to acquire a tee shirt!

The first day of October

began with a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks then a tour of downtown Charleston. It was a beautiful day, unlike the day my fellow Floridians were experiencing.  Each time we checked the security cameras it was raining at our house!  If ever there was a good time to take a whirlwind trip, [even if for no other reason than to follow the sun] it was this weekend!

We walked through Charleston Waterfront Park and back up the street along Rainbow Row towards the Historic Charleston City Market

Where LB was able to collect a few items he found to be interestingYes that is dehydrated okra.  And it is actually pretty good!

Welcome!

I’m Kim… and I love Pretty clothes, Pretty décor, Pretty days, and Pretty much anything that involves family and fun.  Growing up, My Mama told me more than once “Pretty is as Pretty does” …encouraging me to focus on the inner pretty girl, as she is the one that matters most.

Here on my blog, I’m sharing what I see as pretty.  Whether it be an outfit, an experience, an event, a memory or thought.  Hopefully I’ll share something that will be interesting, useful, or make you smile along the way.
