Family Photos

Grandpa hasn’t been feeling well so everyone has been going by his house to see how he’s doing.

During a recent visit, my aunt shared several photos that she had discovered:

Newlywed Grandpa
Jitterbug Grandpa

Grandpa wanted to go to church for Founders (Homecoming) Day on Sunday.  Several members of the family also went.  One little family member who was displaying her creativity, kept Glammy busy holding the notebook during the service. While she created a masterpiece:

Once finished, Lydia handed the notebook to LB and asked him to draw himself:

Making a Change

Since the new sofa and rug purchase, LB and I decided to change the red walls in the kitchen.  The problem has been finding a color that we both like.

The Sherwin-Williams app will allow you to see your own room painted in the color of your choice:

But not very well.

LB decided to take a cue from a well-known trademark and

Yes we sampled all three colors: Sherwin Williams Raisin, Reticence, and Nuthatch. But, alas, we are no closer to picking a winner.

YAY!

While Friday is my Favorite Day, National Day Calendar provided great reasons to CELEBRATE EVERY DAY this week.

Saturday was National Strawberry Cream Pie Day!

Favorite # ONE

Strawberry Cream Pie!

And I made this one!

Strawberry Cream Pie

  • Servings: 8
  • Time: 60 mins
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Print

Ingredients

•             1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs (or 10 graham cracker sheets)

•             2 Tablespoons sugar

•             1 Tablespoons brown sugar

•             7 Tablespoons butter

•             1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

•             1 (8 ounce) block cream cheese

•             1/3 cup lemon juice

•             1 cup strawberries

•             1 cup sugar

•             2 Tbsp cornstarch

•             1/3 cup water

•             1/4 tsp vanilla

Directions

Pulverize graham crackers in food processor until finely ground into crumbs.
Combine graham cracker crumbs and sugars in a mixing bowl.  Add melted butter and use a fork to combine ingredients well.
Firmly pack crumbs into the bottom of a pie pan and gently press up the sides.  Use your fingers to pack crumbs tightly into the sides of the pie pan.
Bake or refrigerate the crust: If desired, bake at 375º for 7-10 minutes.  If crust is for a no-bake recipe, refrigerate or freeze for 10-20 minutes before filling.

Add 1/3 cup water to strawberries and puree.
Combine sugar and cornstarch in a saucepan. Stir in strawberry puree.
Cook over medium heat, stir constantly until mixture thickens and come to a boil, about 15 to 20 minutes.
Allow to boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat.
Stir in vanilla extract and allow to cool for about 10 minutes.

Cream together cream cheese and condensed milk until smooth.  Add lemon juice and blend well.  Pour into graham cracker crust. Top with fruit pie filling. Chill for 2 hours before serving.

Baking Cookies

With Lydia

How exciting!

Lydia practiced cracking eggs and learned how to use the stand mixer.

She helped put the cookies on the cookie sheet.

And helped get them into a preheated oven.

which was VERY hot!

But her favorite part was decorating…

and she did a great job!

Thursday was National Boyfriend Day!

Recently we said goodbye to the living room furniture (here).

A buyer and her entourage picked it up last Sunday.  She was a sweet young lady and explained that she recently lost her husband.  She was excited to have my red furniture and I was glad to see she had such a strong support system with her.

My living room furniture is gone.

Now that we have a clean slate, the decorating has begun.

This week marks the beginning of fall!

…and soon everything will be pumpkin-flavored.

This is the season for fun holidays!

In addition, the leaves are turning and the cool weather is encouraging you to take out your sweaters and boots.

JUST KIDDING!

While there, we stayed at a Hampton Inn.

It was at the front desk that LB and I encountered someone he affectionately named…

Not only does she have she-shed problems, Sheryl has reservation problems.

This vacationer spent an extremely long time ahead of us when we were checking in and [coincidentally] was at the front desk when LB went to return the room keys.

Time on Tuesday

spent with my favorite little girls.

For some time now, on Tuesday afternoon, when I’m coming home from work, Mama will text to tell me that she has Lydia and Rory at her house.  The text will include the message that they are waiting to see Glammy.  When I finally make it home, I will walk next door to collect them and Lydia and Rory will show me how excited they are to come home with me!

Then the race is on!

LB’s security system captured a moment together that I found in his google photos:Lydia WINS!

This has been a highlight of my life and I am going to miss our time together on Tuesday afternoons!

Napoleon Dynamite

is a 2004 movie about the life of a peculiar teenager and his interactions with family and friends.

It is a GREAT MOVIE!

Watch it!

One of Napoleon’s family members is Uncle Rico (played by John Gries).

In case you didn’t already hear, Uncle Rico was in Jacksonville yesterday.

He was spotted at Waffle House and was reported to be in town filming for a commercial that is scheduled to air this Sunday on the NFL Network.

What is the connection?

Besides the fact that he could’ve taken state [back in the 80’s] if Coach hadn’t held him back, Uncle Rico has been named Gardner Minshew’s doppelgänger.

My plan is to keep things positive on my blog, but I have to confess that this week has been weird and my emotions have been all over the place.  Nevertheless, I am blessed and grateful, so I’m going to pick five favorites and focus on the good things.

Lunch with Family

Last Sunday, my immediate family met for lunch to celebrate Richard.  September 15th marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life as he left his hometown and moved to South Carolina.  Richard will be managing a Maple Street Biscuit Company restaurant.  He is a smart and brave young man.  I’m proud of him!

To help send him off properly, we did what any red-blooded American family would do…

EAT!

We met at BurgerFi in Riverside, where I got to spend time with some of my favorite tiny people.  After we rearranged the restaurant to suit ourselves, we enjoyed burgers and had a fun time visiting together and watching videos of puppies and/or kitties on Glammy’s iPhone. And although one little girl had a hankering for a PB&J, I had a hankering for a burger.  I discovered that BurgerFi makes one of the best hamburgers I’ve ever had.

The Hyppo Café

I never intended for this post to be all about eating, but since this was another first in my life, it should be documented.

My first Hyppo experience happened after lunch with family on Sunday.   At The Hyppo Café

there are Popsicle flavors beyond your wildest imagination.

The Hyppo‘s Gourmet Ice Pops are delicious and even more so when dipped in chocolate.  LB chose the chocolate dipped strawberry cheesecake pop while I chose the chocolate dipped toasted coconut.

Favorite # THREE

The

Artwork

at The Hyppo Cafe is interesting and entertaining. One of my favorites is this mural that features Richard and Kyle aboard the Avocado Ark

After the burgers and pops, LB took this photo to mark the eventful day.We love Richard and hope that eventually he’ll be moving back.

LB and I have been planning to replace our living room furniture.  While we were out Sunday, we decided to check out a couple of furniture stores in Orange Park.  It was on this day that LB found the furniture of his dreams.  With that, it would be time for another farewell.

IT’S FRIDAY!

According to superstition, Friday the 13th is an unlucky day.

But I think any DAY preceded by FRI is fabulous!

Also, according to superstition, it is bad luck to have a black cat cross your path.

Again I disagree because of this catmy

A Very Brady Renovation

The first episode of the four-part miniseries ran this past Monday on HGTV.   For me, it was a walk down Memory Lane featuring the remaining cast of the 1970’s hit series The Brady Bunch.  As a fan of the series and a Marcia-wannabe, I had been looking forward to this program and enjoyed every bit of the 90 minute episode.  And as info… Marcia is still very groovy!

Naked Barbies to be precise.

I enjoyed having the opportunity to spend time with Lydia and Rory this week!

A Paid Day Off

due to

Inclement_Weath (PD)

Which was the official posting on my schedule for Tuesday and Wednesday.

That (PD) is very important!

The center was closed on Tuesday, September 4th and Wednesday, September 5th due to hurricane Dorian.

I slept late, enjoyed time with my cat, watched recorded episodes of Love It Or List It [featuring designer Hillary and real estate expert David] while walking/running on my treadmill, and scrapbooking which I posted about here.

The power was out for about an hour and a few limbs were scattered about the yard, but overall, there was no  damage at my house.

Favorite # FIVE

These Two Puddle Jumpers

…who came to visit after the storm.  I mentioned [in my blog post yesterday] how much I like this photo posted on social media by Emily.

And Gradual was the word of the day.  Apparently this is a new word for Lydia and I wanted to include this in my blog post so I’ll never forget our conversation.  Lydia enjoyed using her new word again and again to describe her thoughts on many things that were happening.  For example: Glammy is having a hard time putting her photo album back together because it is so gradual.

I enjoyed hearing Lydia’s very own spin on the use of the word gradual.

Time spent with Lydia will always find a place in my favorites.

And, of course, it was sweet to see this little visitor

complete with pink raincoat and Batgirl!

There is only one thing better than a FRIDAY…

and that one thing is a Friday to begin

A THREE DAY WEEKEND!

And although that ought to be my favorite # ONE, I’m going to begin my Friday Favorites with last weekend…

Favorite # ONE

Backstreet’s Back

A Backstreet Boys concert has been an item on my bucket list since the creation of my bucket list!

LB and I headed to the Amway Center last Saturday to see the Backstreet Boys in concert.

(which included a concert tee shirt souvenir)

The long anticipated concert was excellent and the Boys are better than ever!

I’m checking this item off and I’ll check it again if I get the chance!

Since we spent the night in Orlando, LB and I took the opportunity to check out a new store near our hotel.

It made me miss my furniture and design days!

Tropical Storm Dorian strengthened into a hurricane Wednesday afternoon and now Florida is in the cross-hairs of what looks to be a major event.  There has been a lot of activity associated with Dorian in the stores and on social media.

 Yesterday I saw

on Facebook

along with the caption

“Everybody in Florida right now.”

It is easy to get caught up in the excitement-anxiety associated with hurricane prep.

Before he came home Wednesday afternoon, LB and I exchanged the following text:

Hopefully we won’t need it, but if we do, then we’re all set!

Speaking of texts, Thursday night Mama sent this sweet one:

Wednesday would have been 54 years since Mama and Daddy were married.

I shared a post about that happy day last year that can be read here.

Welcome!

I’m Kim… and I love Pretty clothes, Pretty décor, Pretty days, and Pretty much anything that involves family and fun.  Growing up, My Mama told me more than once “Pretty is as Pretty does” …encouraging me to focus on the inner pretty girl, as she is the one that matters most.

Here on my blog, I’m sharing what I see as pretty.  Whether it be an outfit, an experience, an event, a memory or thought.  Hopefully I’ll share something that will be interesting, useful, or make you smile along the way.
