Five Favorites

March 30, 2017

Today I’m styling a few of my favorites.  This is Look No. 204 from my Stylebook

Orange top from Shein.com, jeans from Venus.com, sandals from Target; the handbag pictured is not the one I carried today.  The one I actually carried is my Michael Kor’s tiger print handbag.  This tote is the perfect size for me.  It has one zipper compartment on the side and 4 pockets (2 on each side).  I can carry my wallet, makeup bag, brush, iPad, glasses case and sunglasses case.  It will also hold a notebook and sometimes a thermal coffee cup.  In addition to it’s usefulness, it is cute and goes with so many different outfits.  It is one of my favorites.

Speaking of favorites, I’ll take a moment to mention some of mine.  Here are 5

I’ve already mentioned my tote

Venus skinny jeans.  I wear them all the time and have them in 8 colors

The color Orange.  And orange isn’t just orange.  It comes in beautiful shades such as coral, salmon, rust, vermillion, and the list goes on (really I can’t think of any more).  I have orange tops, orange handbags, orange sandals, orange pants and shorts.  Love it!

Hoops.  If I’m not wearing hoop earrings, I feel weird.  My latest pair are

Black wedge sandals by XOXO.  I’m on my second pair.

You’ll probably see these again and again as I continue to post!

Shopping Spree

March 29, 2017

Happy Wednesday to all you worker bees (aka people who do all of the hard work but get none of the credit)…. we have made it to the half way mark… which reminds me of a song:

Everybody’s working for the weekend
Everybody wants a little romance
Everybody’s goin’ off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance, oh
You want a piece of my heart
You better start from start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby lets go

Thank you Loverboy!

As I mentioned in my Monday Post, my job can be the cause of HIGH levels of stress and I find myself looking forward to Friday as early as the prior Sunday night.

It is sometimes a challenge, but I am thankful for the job, as it enables me to do all the things I need/like to do… pay bills, venture out with LB, and SHOP!!!  Which brings me to a new favorite bad habit I’ve developed.  Every 3 or 4 months I like to go to shein.com and allow myself a $100 shopping spree.  My last indulgence was in February.  I took about a week to collect items in my shopping bag so I can think about what I really want to purchase.  Here’s what I ordered last:

Hot Pink Cold Shoulder Ruffle Sleeves Shift Dress

This is a contender for my Easter 2017 dress

Black Crochet Trim Chiffon Halter Top

vest170223101_2Saving this cute top for shorts this summer

Pink Open Shoulder Raglan Sleeve Top

blouse160923708_2I bought this with my ivory Forever21 skirt in mind

Floral Print Off The Shoulder Ruffle Sheath Dressdress160808506_1This is an adorable dress, looks really cute on, and I have no idea when/where I will wear it

Red Cold Shoulder Tie Cuff BlouseLooks cute with skinny jeans (blue or white) and will pair nicely with my white shorts this summer

Multicolor Half Sleeve Cold Shoulder Stripe Blouse

I styled this recently on a trip to St Simon’s Island with white skinny jeans

Burgundy Open Shoulder Blouse

This was an enjoyable shopping spree.  I think I’ll do it again soon!

What I Wore

March 28, 2017

This is what I wore:

Look No. 202 from my Stylebook.

It has only been 17 days since my very first post and I am learning that so far I have done pretty much everything wrong.  From content and word count to plug-ins and efficient code… it’s overwhelming.   Instead of writing a fun and meaningful post about what I am styling today, I spent my free time researching successful blogging.  There is a lot of information to explain the who, what, where, why, and how to have a successful blog, how to provide meaningful content, how to make money blogging, etc.  Overwhelming

Since I work full time, and commute to another city, I run out of time for extra activities during the week.  I’m sure many of you can identify.  Some days I come home feeling like this:

I’m having a good time.  This is a lifestyle blog, and my posts are about my life.  I enjoy shopping and putting cute outfits together.  It is fun to share where I go, how I feel, and what I wore.  I may never be a “successful” blogger, but I’m going to keep on pecking away, researching, changing things up, and I’m not going to let it stress me out…  There’s enough of that at the office.

50 Shades of Red

March 28, 2017

Actually there are only 43, but 50 sounded better.

And my jeans are labeled “wine”, but are still considered a shade of red.  Anyway wine, maroon, burgundy are all shades of red so we’re keeping it in the family.  As I’ve mentioned before, these jeans are a favorite of mine.  They fit like a glove and are as comfortable as can be.  I wear them a couple of times a month and usually with a black top.  They are great for wearing to work and for date night.  Here I’m wearing them with my animal print heels and a black cold-shoulder blouse

I’ve seen several articles and blog posts on “how to wear red pants/jeans”.  Here’s my tip:  Buy the jeans, take them home, try them on with all of your tops until you are happy and comfortable.  I typically wear a black top/blouse with my wine colored jeans, but any neutral will work including black/white strips, dots, animal print.  And they can be styled up or down depending on the occasion.  A tee shirt and sneakers for a casual look or dressed up in heels.

If you’re interested in a great buy, check out this $11.99 deal from Style & Co, Petite Slim-Leg Tummy-Control Jeans, Only at Macy’s:

One of my next purchases will be a bright red pair of jeans or pants like the ones pictured below

From Old Navy, Pixie Mid-Rise Ankle Pants for $27:

From White House Black Market Curvy Body-Defining Ankle-Grazing Pants:

I really like the Petite Modern Skinny Jeans from LOFT:

I’ll take them all… there’s still a little room in my closet!

My Saturday was going pretty well, until I realized it was Sunday

March 27, 2017

It has been such a relaxed weekend that I forgot I was at the end of it (sob).  Lately my weekends are priceless… and shorter than they used to be.  I love the weekend and do all that I can to make the most of both Saturday and Sunday.

Yesterday flew by and it was evening and “time to go out” before I realized it.  So we didn’t go out.  I did manage to finish the laundry, get in five miles on the treadmill,  and create a spectacular cheesecake desert for LB.  But I put on my cozy jeans and sweater and snuggled up with Elvis in front of the TV instead of venturing out as usual.

Because I felt so bad about wanting to stay home on Saturday night, I suggested that we go out on Sunday evening and meet some friends for Mexican cuisine at my favorite Mexican restaurant La Nopalera.

As usual, dinner was delish and the company was excellent.  I took the opportunity to  relax but celebrate a non work day by wearing my boyfriend shirt from Boston Proper (a Merry Christmas gift from my Mama)

And this is me posing with my iPhone…

Maybe I’ll have more to say about it tomorrow… right now I can think of nothing but sleep.

Yesterday

March 25, 2017

Charles F Kettering (very smart man) said “You can’t have a better tomorrow if you’re still thinking about yesterday”.  Well, I’m okay with yesterday so I’m thinking about it…

This is what I wore

img_2527.jpg

Look No. 258 from my Stylebook

A black Mossimo tank from Target, black Capri Dress Pants by Apt. 9, my Coach bag that was a birthday gift (last June from my LB and I cannot find online anywhere), and black patent strappy sandals from Payless.  Not yet pictured in my stylebook are the kitty cat earrings that I wore.  They were a 2016 Christmas gift from my daughter Stephanie.  They are too cute

img_2531-1.jpgimg_2532-1.jpg
and this cute little sweater was purchased last spring from Grease Rags Clothing Co.

img_2529.jpg

Known for its retro inspired and rockabilly style clothing, Grease Rags is the place to go if you are feeling a vintage vibe.  I met the owner at The Dance Shack while taking a rockabilly jive dance class earlier this year… but that’s a post for another day.

“It’s Friday! I can’t wait to be ashamed of what I do this weekend.” – Anonymous

March 24, 2017

Just Kidding Mama!

img_2481

I routinely come home from work on Friday evening with the sole purpose of preparing LB’s “little pizzas”.

It all starts with an aluminum foil lined 17.25 x 11.5 Food Network baking sheet coated in cooking spray.  Next comes the flour tortillas… yep… tortillas… 5 of ’em.  Sometimes they don’t fit comfortably so we Make Them Fit!

Then come the toppings: pizza sauce, red pepper flakes, green bell pepper, onion, parmesan cheese, green olives, black olives, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, bacon, and mozzarella cheese…

all baked together in a 375° for 19 minutes.  Trust me.

Just so we touch on the “fashion” part of this post, let me add that I am wearing what I wore to work today, (and I will post that tomorrow because right now it’s movie time) minus the shoes and plus my pom pom socks that look like this:

img_2516.jpg

only mine are grey/black.  Very comfy.

Welcome!

I’m Kim… and I love Pretty clothes, Pretty décor, Pretty days, and Pretty much anything that involves family and fun.  Growing up, My Mama told me more than once “Pretty is as Pretty does” …encouraging me to focus on the inner pretty girl, as she is the one that matters most.

Here on my blog, I’m sharing what I see as pretty.  Whether it be an outfit, an experience, an event, a memory or thought.  Hopefully I’ll share something that will be interesting, useful, or make you smile along the way.
