Calling All Camo

September 12, 2018

TBB has invited bloggers to link up for the

FALL FASHION FRENZY

I’m coming on board late, but better late than never.

Today’s post is all about camouflage.

Camouflage is the use of any combination of materials, coloration, or illumination for concealment, either by making animals or objects hard to see, or by disguising them as something else.  Examples include the leopard’s spotted coat, the battledress of a modern soldier, and the leaf-mimic katydid’s wings. (source)

Notice how I blend into the shrubbery?  I’m barely visible to the naked eye!

I’ve always considered CAMO to be a staple of fall fashion.

As I’ve mentioned repeatedly, it will not feel like fall in Florida for quite some time, but I’m breaking out a pair of my camouflage pants so I can play along.

I went against my better judgment and wore them to work today along with a top from my first Trunk Club experience and black bejeweled sandals.

My camouflage pants are from the Rock and Republic line at Kohls.  They are actually “jean leggings” and are quite comfortable.  Although the same leggings are nowhere to be found on the Kohl’s website, there are a few alternatives.

Women’s Levi’s® 711 Ankle Skinny Jeans
Juniors’ Mudd High-Waisted Skinny Pants
Women’s Rock & Republic® Fever Denim Rx™ Midrise Pull-On Jean Leggings

Kohl’s // Kohl’s // Kohl’s

If you like Kohl’s and are in the market for camouflage pants, these are currently $59.50, $25.00, and $35.20 respectively.

If you don’t enjoy shopping at Kohl’s, there are plenty of options elsewhere:

Forever 21 //  Charlotte Russe // Old Navy // Shein // Venus

Happy CAMO shopping!

10 Things You Didn’t Know

September 10, 2018

About Me!

On this 2nd Monday in September, I am linking up with the ladies of the Blended Blog to share

10 things you didn’t know about me

1. Autumn is my favorite season.  It will continue to feel like summer in Florida for a while.  No matter… LB and I will soon take a trip to the mountains to enjoy the cool weather and the beautiful colors of autumn.

2. It was several years ago, 2008, I think, that I successfully completed a half marathon.  These days, I do more walking than running.

3. I love to travel, but I don’t enjoy flying so much.  I didn’t mind flying until our last trip home from Vegas.  It was during our Vegas vacation that what I thought was a cold turned out to be a sinus infection.  As soon as we ascended I thought my head was going to explode.  It happened again during our descent.  Then twice more before we landed in Jax.  😭

4. Hall and Oates are my favorite musicians.  I’ve seen them in concert three times.

“Alexa play Hall and Oates’ Greatest Hits”.

5. I am 5 classes from completing my bachelor’s degree.  Try as I may, I could not decide what I wanted to be when I grow up.  After taking classes [off and on] for the last 25 years, I learned that I almost have enough credits for a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies!  Currently I’m on the first of those five classes.

Wish me luck!

6. I have a giraffe collection.  One day I’ll share the story of my giraffe dream that prompted members of my family to begin giving me all things giraffe.

7. I’m obsessed with my cat.  Elvis is my rescue fur-baby and we will be celebrating his 9th birthday this week.

8. Mexican cuisine is my favorite.  LB and I try a new Mexican restaurant every time we go out of town.

9. Every Monday, I start a new diet.

10. I have owned 3 white Altimas.  Although it is not something that I can explain,  it is important that I drive a white car.  Unless LB lets me drive his Mustang.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to stop by my blog.

How Do You Cozy?

September 3, 2018

Happy September!

Fall is just around the corner!

Here in the Sunshine State, typically it won’t feel like fall until Christmas.  This summer has been so rainy that there is no telling what kind of change this will mean for the temperature this fall.

Because it is a new month, The Blended Blog has presented a new Q&A:

How Do You Cozy?

TBB’s featured blogger seems to be happy about the upcoming start of fall and, as she explains is looking forward to “cozy days, nights and weekends”.

If I keep my A/C set to 60° I might be able to enjoy some of that cozy myself!

Slippers: YES or NO?

Slipper Socks: YES

What is Your Favorite Blanket?

The one on my bed!

Thin or Thick Pillow?

Mine is down filled and squishy.  Since it is thin I have two!

Favorite Warm Beverage?

I love hot chocolate

but lately I’ve been enjoying green tea instead.  It offers more health benefits.

Robe: YES or NO?

No.  Too hot.

Favorite Comfort Snack Food(s)?

I asked LB what my comfort food would be and he said, “probably something that you’ve baked, like cookies or brownies.”  Then he asked me, “what do you reach for when you want to snack?”  and I said…

Mixed Nuts.

Every Day.

Movies or TV Series Binge?

The closest I come to binging anything would be WatchMojo.com on YouTube.

WatchMojo is a YouTube channel and is famous for lists of Top 10’s.  WatchMojo is especially famous for top 10 anime lists, but I have no interest in anime.   Once started, they play one after another.  WatchMojo is perfect for someone who has a short attention span who finds useless information/trivia entertaining.

Actual PJ’s or Leggings?

Neither.

Do You Cozy Up on the couch or in a chair?

In a cozy chairwith a cozy kitty.

Preferably on my lap.

Hoodie, T-Shirt, or Sweater?

If it is cold, and I’m staying home, and no one is going to see me, I’ll wear my one and only sweatshirt.

GO JAGUARS!

PARTY TIME

August 6, 2018

This month The Blended Blog Asks about Party Time.

Favorite Birthday Party as a Child?

There is but one memorable childhood party, and I only recall bits and pieces.  I believe it was the year of my 12thbirthday, and it was near the end of the Disco era.  WHAT?

Some of the things I remember about that party are:

  • It was set up in the garage
  • Boys were invited
  • Disco Dynamite was one of the awesome records that were played.

The event must have turned out well, because the vague memory always brings a smile to my face.

Do you like to Entertain? Yes or No?

I like to have people over and feed them.

What kind of Parties are your favorite?

Dress up parties are amusing!

One year our family dressed as Batman characters to celebrate Richard’s birthday.  Dressing up for Laurie’s Halloween party every year is a lot of fun too.It is good to have a specific event to plan around, like the Super Bowl Party we had this past January. There will typically be something on the TV like a football game (obviously) or my YouTube party playlist to help provide musical entertainment.

If I host a party with family in mind, it will usually involve the pool.

Big or Small Parties?

Both.

Favorite thing to do at Parties?

Eat.

Party Food Favorites?

Finger foods are good!  Dips are great!  Anything that you can dip a cracker or chip into is usually a big hit!

Favorite Flavor Birthday Cake?

I like a cake with buttercream frosting and ‘Happy Birthday Kim’ decorations from a local grocery store bakery.Yes I’ll do it!

Balloons? Yes or No?

Yes, love balloons!  Especially when they come special delivery in a balloon bouquet!

Best Party Song?

Good Question!  There are so many!  Uptown Funk.  Love Shack.  Anything from the 80’s!

As I mentioned before, I have a YouTube Party Playlist.  Accessing the website on the TV delivers party music as well as video.  A fun song like The Cupid Shuffle will provide dance instruction as well!

Do you like to Dance? Yes or No?

Yes, I do like to dance.

No, I do not dance well.

Luckily my partner helps me look like I know what I’m doing.

July ~ Vacation Edition

July 2, 2018

Today is about one of my favorite events:

VACATION!

TBB ASKS ~ July ~ Vacation Edition

Will you go on a summer vacation this year?

Yes, LB and I take a vacation on or around my Birthday in June.  That vacation is over.  You can read about it here.

Do nothing but relax or a pack it all in vacation?

Both.  I think.  I’m not entirely sure what pack it all in means.

What month do you like to vacation?

I’d like to go on vacation every month, but it typically only happens in June, October, and November.

Cruise: YES or NO?

YES!  I love to cruise!

It would be great if we could take a cruise now, however LB likes to avoid cruising during hurricane season and has recommended a May 2019 alternative!

Favorite Vacation Tradition?

While I thoroughly enjoy visits to the ocean, the autumn trip to see the leaves change is my favorite.  I must be getting old.

Most Memorable Vacation?

The most memorable one was the first.  LB and I went to Asheville and toured the Biltmore Estate while it was decorated in Christmas splendor!  Other memorable vacations were:

The Captiva Island adventure which included a day in the ER.

Vegas and the Grand Canyon.

And all of the cruises.

Pack Light or Pack it ALL?

Although I attempt to pack light, I always pack way too much.  And I’ll still manage to forget something.

Hotel, Condo or House?

Hotel.

My favorite is the Residence Inn.

Favorite Thing(s) to Eat on Vacation?

Each vacation includes a visit to a local Mexican restaurant.  At least once.

Warm or Cold Destination?

Both. I enjoy relaxing on the beach with LB or collecting shells.

However I also enjoy a scary hike in the woods to find a waterfall.  The complete story on that can be read if you click here.

Camping Food

June 25, 2018

Not a title I EVER imagined using (as I don’t camp).

Today The Blended Blog is focusing on

Camping Food

A quick look at the post will cause you to begin craving S’MORES.

Let me help you.

I must confess that I have no interest in camping because:

I do not like snakes and avoid them at all costs.

Nor do I want to sleep on the ground, in a tent, in the woods, or with any creatures other than my cat.

That said, I do like to cook out, and LB and I cook out often:

At the beach

At the park

In our backyard

My favorite cookout food (which could also be categorized as camping food) is

Hot Dogs

Although they are high in calories, Johnsonville Jalapeño Cheddar Smoked Sausage are the best!

These are best enjoyed on a toasted bun with grilled peppers, onions, and doused in yellow mustard!

If  a low calorie option is preferred, Hebrew National 97% Fat Free Beef Franks is 45 calories per dog, is kosher, and contain no artificial flavors, artificial colors, or by-products.

(Now I sound like a commercial)

Some other easily portable items that grill nicely are:

Corn on the Cob

(an LB Favorite)

Kabobs

Fish

marinated in Ponzu sauce which looks very weird, but tastes good.

And believe it or not

Peaches

Cut in half, remove the pit and brush each cut side with oil. Place the peaches cut-side down on the grill and cook undisturbed until grill marks appear, 4 to 5 minutes. Flip the peaches and cook until tender, 4 to 5 minutes.

Grilled peaches are Very Tasty!

According to this week’s author of the  Blended Blog Camping Food post, you haven’t lived if you haven’t cooked Jiffy Pop popcorn over a fire.

I’m thinking LB and I will have to try this.

Summer Plans

June 18, 2018

What are my plans for the summer?

They have already been put into motion.

Fortunately, I don’t have to engage in summer planning.

LB is a Master Planner.  He enjoys

GOING

and likes to keep the road hot.

He is always planning events to keep us entertained and this summer will be no exception.

Going to the Beach

is a summer weekend activity that LB enjoys.  Having seen more than one horrific shark movie, I intend to avoid venturing into the ocean.  Nevertheless I delight in having a tan on my legs, collecting shells and being by his side, so I am happy to accompany him.

Going to Concerts

especially outdoors, is a favorite summer activity.

Although we have yet to attend a concert at the new Jacksonville amphitheater, LB and I enjoy attending concerts at the St. Augustine Amphitheater.

Plans have been made to attend an upcoming concert in July.  I’m looking forward to seeing Donny and Marie!

In addition to concert performances by celebrity musicians, the concert fascination extends to other musical events.  Each Wednesday night throughout the summer there is the Music by the Sea event at the St. Johns County Pier.  The Little Light Music Concerts are on Sunday evenings on the oceanfront lawn beneath the St. Simons Lighthouse.  These are great opportunities to get outside and have a good time.  If we happen to be in Daytona Beach for the weekend, we will go to the Bandshell to see what tribute band is featured.  The Summer Concert Series happens every Friday night and occasionally on Saturday.

Speaking of Daytona Beach

Going to a Pool Party

is another summertime event to attend when visiting Daytona Beach for the weekend.  For the past several years there has been a weekend pool party every Saturday [beginning on Memorial Day through Labor Day] at the Daytona Beach Shores Hampton Inn, complete with a cookout and karaoke.  It has always been a fun weekend getaway during the summer.

Going on Vacation

is a given every June.

Although summer hasn’t officially arrived, we have already taken a summer trip.  The plan was to begin with the aforementioned pool party, take in a few concerts, relax, shop, then head to Orlando.

As usual we stayed at the Daytona Beach Shores Hampton Inn.   This year we found out the hard way, that management decided to forego the regular weekend pool party and feature the event only occasionally.  It was a little bit of a disappointment and planning trips to Daytona Beach will now require extra research in the future.

Not to be undone, LB arranged an afternoon on the beach.Under a blue and yellow umbrella!

He always recovers nicely.

Both LB and I agree that there should be a summer trip do over.  We also agree that a cruise would be nice.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

Welcome!

I’m Kim… and I love Pretty clothes, Pretty décor, Pretty days, and Pretty much anything that involves family and fun.  Growing up, My Mama told me more than once “Pretty is as Pretty does” …encouraging me to focus on the inner pretty girl, as she is the one that matters most.

Here on my blog, I’m sharing what I see as pretty.  Whether it be an outfit, an experience, an event, a memory or thought.  Hopefully I’ll share something that will be interesting, useful, or make you smile along the way.
